This quiz is loosely based on the new comedy Show on Dave called ‘8 Bit’ hosted by Dara O’Brien where you look at shots of popular games from the past and present and attempt to guess them. Games Master
What a show this was, first episode was aired in ‘92 and it lasted 6 years. Although it did include game reviews, ultimately the show was about players who challenged each other on the latest video game titles. Who can forget the Game Master himself played by astronomer the late Sir Patrick Moore, he constantly put down contestants and looked rather scary. Although the most popular contestants to take on the Game Master Arena was Take That, where Robbie Williams famously smashed it up and ended up with the desired and odd looking Golden Joystick.
Video Power
Unlike Game Master, this show was built around contestants who would compete mainly by answering questions but they would occasionally play video games too. This show only lasted 2 years and ended in 1992 but definitely has a cult following, IMDB rates this show at 7.8, so it must have done something right! Around this time the likes of Nintendo and Sega were becoming increasingly popular and they were very happy to show off their products off on Video Power.
Video Game Nation
Video Game Nation was aired exclusively on Challenge TV, the concept of the show was game reviews rather than a quiz. Such as the Top 5 worst sidekicks in video games or the Bomberman challenge to counting down the 5 worst wrestling games. Anyway, this show lasted for 4 series and eventually morphed into Video Game magazine which still continues to run now.
