If you’re a 360 gamer who was looking forward to Trine, it looks like you’ll have to get your fix on the PC or PS3 platforms. The high detailed 2D puzzle-platformer was scheduled to be released last year, but that date has come and gone and the XBLA has seen neither hide nor hair of Trine. Joel Kinnunen of Frozenbyte recently stated on the company forums, “It’s out of our hands but most likely will not happen. Sorry. (We probably won’t comment on this any further.)”

One has to wonder with a statement like that, just why the game won’t be released on 360. If the game was developed enough to be released, perhaps licensing issues or other problems prevented the release. Joystiq contacted Microsoft for a statement, but it seems they’ve refused to shed any light on the cancellation as well.

Since Frozenbyte has stated the 360 release is out of their hands, once would assume Microsoft was not happy striking a deal with the company to release the game onto the 360 platform. It’s really a shame, because Trine is a great game that should be experienced by anyone who loves a good side-scrolling platform. If you haven’t, make an effort to try it out on the PC or PS3, you definitely won’t regret it.

A real shame indeed, I was looking forward to playing this on my 360. Glad I got to experience it on my friend’s PS3 though, it’s an amazing co-op game.

  2. I can’t help but think that Microsoft didn’t get what they wanted and stubbornly rejected the title altogether.

  3. That’s a shame for 360 owners. The game is pretty fun and intriguing.

  4. This just makes no sense. The game got great sales on the PS3 and PC. Why wouldn’t Microsoft want to release it on XBL Marketplace. Something doesn’t add up here.

  5. Good thing I got this for cheap on Steam.

On that same note, I wonder why some 360 games like Shadow Complex aren’t being released on the PS3. I think that game should come to all systems also, just like Trine should be.

  7. This game was worlds more enjoyable on PC with a 360 controller. So it makes zero sense to me that they wouldn’t release it for the 360. It would have been fun as a co-op game over LIVE.
