The MW2 community has been abuzz with users hacking into the PC version to unlock its full potential. Yesterday, a clever hacker discovered a way to change those pesky signal bars into proper ping numbers.
Read on after the jump to learn how.
Step 1. Download and Install the Developer Console Unlocker / Hack to get access to the (ingame) console. More information about that can be found here:

Step 2. Then when u get in game pull down the console and type (without the quotes)
“/cg_scoreboardpinggraph 0?
“/cg_scoreboardpingtext 1?
Setting both to 1 will show both text and ping.
You need to type this in the console because it won’t work when added to .cfg files.
Step 3. You will get the numbers. This saves as far as I can tell but it will turn the graph back on if you close the game

That’s really awesome. I mean, I don’t play MW2 or other FPS, but like…game designers who think that the damn cell phone bars are better than numeric ping need to get a clue.
Didn’t Steam say something any banning user accounts with modified files as they assume you’re running a hack? Though I read that somewhere.
Yup, they did. If it’s a .dll like in this case you can be banned. But if you just change i.e. the file “config_mp.cfg” you shoudn’t be banned at all.
I want to try this, but I’m concerned about getting banned. I think I’ll wait a bit, because I would much rather get a real numerical ping than some stupid bars.

Tested it and i can tell you only this :
BARS ARE GREEN EVEN WHEN PING IS 198 !
Average ping on almost every S&D game i was in was like 160-180 .
So , anyone who has at least a bit of clue how multiplayer competitive fps works will know that anything above 100 is overkill.
So yeah , no wonder they didn’t put in numeric values by default , they don’t want people to know how high pings are.
This is yet another reason why IW is out of touch with PC gamers. In fact, all games, in general, should show ping.
Do the devs think that 360 gamers will be “scared” when they find out their ping is above 200!?
I think most ‘causal’ gamers don’t know what the ping reading is, hence the inclusion of graphical ping readings. Personally, I would take the chance with the ‘hack’, and lodge an appeal if I were to get banned for it. At least, I would hopefully get away with a warning to not do it again, if anything.
why not just open mp_config change the cl_maxping in from the default 800 to a more sensible number

There’s no appeals with VAC – and IW support is on holiday or something, which is where it all starts getting a bit dangerous.
I would love to see this on my 360 or PS3. There’s nothing more fun than emptying an entire mag into somebody at close range without even wounding them. 300ms ping rules!
Tried changing the 4 bars to 10 bars and yes most games my ping is around 150-200 and so is everyone else’s except the host of course.
All this was just a shitty cover up idea to hide their POS netcode. It’s working too! All the fcuking retards out there think they have a great ping and they can’t understand what all the fuzz is about.
I am used to 30-50ms in MW1, anything above 80 for me is BULLSHIT. So what the FUCK gives with 150-200+ ???? Unplayable POS.
dudes i play with hacks of course but i dont mod any part of the game i run my hacks as an add on so they reli cnt do enyfing about it infinty ward suxx i w net reli suxs the games fkin fails so hack on and every 1 if u get pissed of with it go buy battlefeild bad company 2 …………….
h4x, you need to grow the hell up and think about other people and not just yourself when you play. How can you be so foolish as to make the players suffer by hacking when its the developers who ruined the game. You’re just stabbing your brothers in the back. Nice work on that.
