Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 Review

geowars2 Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 Review

Geometry Wars Evolved 2 is a sequel to one of the best selling Xbox Live arcade games, with it’s simple gameplay concept and beautifully rendered graphics people spent countless nights trying to get the highest score.  Bizarre Creations just couldn’t help it but make a sequel to the great Geometry Wars Evolved and this time around it’s better than ever before.

Pacifism Gameplay

Geometry Wars 2 still includes your favorite game mode Evolved but with an addition of a few more modes such as Deadline, King, Pacifism, Waves and Sequence.  Each game mode offers something different to give you a thrilling experience.  King is very interesting as it has you going circle to circle as you stay protected in each for a few seconds while having to move on to another.  Pacifism my favorite will have you being attacked by a number of shapes as you must lead them through geometry shaped gates to take out a horde of evil shapes.  Waves mostly hated by most in the game community puts you in a tough situations where you must evade waves of air plane shapes.  As you can see this time around you have more option when choosing what you want to play and its executed really well.

One thing that Geometry War was well known for is it’s style of music in the game, with techno like music. This time the game includes different tracks for each game mode.  The songs go really well and add to the game experience.  The sound overall in this game is done well especially if you have 5.1 Dobly.  The graphics are excellent especially in HD, even if you have a standard television like most of us these days, Geo Wars 2 won’t disappoint.  Since the game really isn’t much but a box with shapes attacking you inside, there isn’t much error to make graphically.

Deadline Gameplay

In conclusion Geometry Wars Evolved 2 is an upgraded version to the first but with many improvements such as game modes, additional music tracks and upgraded graphics.  As limited as the game is comparing to other Xbox Live Arcade titles Geo Wars 2 has the fun factor in it and that’s all that’s really required of this game.  Geometry Wars 2 is only $10 and is worth every penny.  I highly suggest you pick up some points and make the purchase, even your whole family will love it, because it has a co-op mode as well.

8.5 Presentation
The game is well done, simple to navigate. Not the usually Arcade game menu.
How does our scoring system work?
8.5 Gameplay
There is no learning curve. Fun and simple gameplay awaits you.
8.0 Sound
Great tracks to each game mode, but only one track to each game mode.
10.0 Longevity
If you're having a bad day at work, this is what you should be turning to instead of drunks and alcohol.
8.5 Overall
If you haven't bought the first game in the series, you have nothing to worry about here as it's still the same old forumla with a new look.
