  • The Nevada state makes an effort to reduce gambling and that’s why they have a law which requires a person to be 21+ in order to gamble. The AGA unveiled a new code of conduct to promote responsible gambling in 2017.

  • Casinos also make efforts to help gamblers. Most of the casinos in Las Vegas have a 24-hour helping line and also adhere to the above-mentioned AGA code of conduct for responsible gambling. They also provide responsible gambling training to their staff.

  • The Nevada Council on Problem Gambling was created in 2005 for promoting responsible gambling, and a Problem Gambling Awareness Month is held annually by NCPG.

Measures And Promotions In Macau

  • In Macau, the prevalence rate of Problem Gambling is 1.9%, and 1.5% of gamblers have sought professional help.

  • The government of Macau takes things seriously. In 2005, it opened The Resilience Center which is a gambling counseling service. It also created a law which states that foreigners under 18 and residents under 21 are not allowed to gamble in casinos. During the period between 2007 and 2013, the “Government gambling rehabilitation service” term awareness increased from 25.5% to 31.9%.

  • Casinos regularly provide responsible gambling training to their staff. The employees are prohibited to enter casinos where they work outside their working hours. The 27 responsible gambling kiosks in Macau have served 9,000 visitors who were seeking help.

  • The community makes a lot of effort to promote responsible gambling, both in brick and mortar casinos and online gambling sites. The University of Macau initiated the annual Responsible Gambling Awareness week in 2009. There are 4 gambling counseling centers in Macau – 3 NGOs, and 1 governmental service. All of them offer counseling to 400 gamblers and their families, and helpline to 1,000 people annually.

The battle for the gambling throne between these two cities is only going to continue as enormous amounts of  money is spent. With such big investments they are definitely going to attract more people.
