I have a great privilege to be a part of the xbox.com forums, I see many community managers from different development houses interact with people on the forums, take some feedback and just relax and have fun with fans of their game.  After Robert Bowling [Community Manager of Infinity Ward] made an announcement that a set of playlists were going to come via an update for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, many of us anticipated the new playlists and waited for weeks onto months before coming to the realization that the playlists were never going to happen.  When one of the posters asked as to why there aren’t any DLC for CoD4, Rober replied:

Rez HD review
By: | December 11th, 2008

This has to be the hardest review I’ve ever written. To describe Rez in a way that is clear to comprehend and explain its sheer awesomeness without repetitively using the word awesome. To put it quite simply, Rez is not just a game, Rez is an experience. Don’t let the “trippy” vector graphics that throb to the beat of the music, or the simplistic game play turn you off on this unique gem that rises to the top of the sea of clones and mediocrity that is today’s gaming market. It’s not often that a game as unique as Rez comes around; yes I know that it originally came out on the Dreamcast and PS2, but that’s not the point. Rez originally came out in 2001; now in 2008 it is re-released and still feels new, original, and fun. It holds up after seven years, which is quite amazing.

Since the dawn of gaming we’ve enjoyed new intellectual properties, so much so that we want to see more of the same games we love, albeit with a new twist on the formula.  Since the original releases of Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Halo a lot of us have enjoyed these great games and want to see more from them.  I remember playing Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation,  and being taken aback at how games have taken such a leap forward. The game ran longer than most games previous to it, and  offered a lot of new and innovative ways to play.  After completing the game, I just had to have more. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting, and I just had to find out more about the universe.

The same runs true for Final Fantasy, and especially with Halo.  I remember picking up my Xbox with a minimal choice of games. I was almost ready to put that big black brick away. That was, until I discovered Halo. Rushing to the store to pick it up, I started playing the game and was blown away by the sheer grandiosity of it. One of the signs of a great game is leaving you wanting more, and each of these titles are great games.

5 Things We Don’t Want In 2009
By: | December 10th, 2008

Video games make me happy. Their sole reason for existence is to entertain. Although this may be unclear at the first glance of any major video game message board (Fanboy uprising!), most people have nothing but good feelings about games and can’t help but look forward to anything and everything dealing with games. Unfortunately, not everything in the video game world should be anticipated, and some should be downright opposed. Gamerlimit.com is taking a look at some things we could do without in 2009.

Capcom’s Ready to Deliver on RE5
By: | December 9th, 2008

So earlier today, Gamer Limit broke the news on Capcoms viral marketing for Resident Evil 5. And boy does the new campaign work. With tons of hype building around the next installment, Capcom is due to cash in big with Resident Evil 5. While viral campaigns aren’t new, Capcom is pushing previous made boundaries. Resistance did a great job with their viral campaign, but left many wondering what it had to do with anything. Capcom looks to be adding some good story cues with their campaign, but the same could have been said for Resistance prior to release. But with tantalizing in game footage and with main characters in the video, this looks to be good heads up of what we have to look forward to.

There are always reasons when it comes to playing games; fun, stress relief, or perhaps you’re in the mood for some intense Mario action. Whatever your reason is, it always boils down to the same generic endgame. So here are a few other uses for videogames that will both entertain and satisfy.
