GameFly makes like Red Box

So you know how you can go to one of those Red Box kiosks and rent a movie for a buck?  Well now Gamefly is letting you do the same thing for PS3/ 360 games at $2.49 and Wii games at $1.99 a day.  Looks like someone is trying to give the brick and mortor rental stores a run for their $9-a-rental money.

The first locations to receive these kiosks are college campuses.  I guess GameFly knows who can’t afford purchasing games brand new.

l4d3

For those of you who are foaming at the mouth with excitement over the upcoming Left 4 Dead free DLC survival pack, take a look at the following video. It features Hunter punting, Smoker wranglin’, and Tank BBQ.

This change in pace will be an interesting twist on gameplay that otherwise focuses on keeping things moving. Allegedly the Valve team can’t last more than 10 minutes against the waves of undead, so it seems that this might be perfect for that “bite sized” round of L4D to squeeze between your morning shower and breakfast. innovate

Yeah, me too. I’m sick to the teeth of the word. So much, in fact, that I almost shudder whenever it leaves my lips: “Innovation”. There, I said it. OK, typed it *hand shudder *. Unfortunately, it’s a word that is increasingly cropping up in the world of gaming, and so I’ve become resigned to the fact that it exists, casting its huge shadow over the realms of creative thinking.

I really respect and am excited by the fact that gaming is being pushed forward more and more, with new ideas and gameplay elements creating both new genres and a broader spectrum, in terms of experience, within already existing ones. It’s just that I wish things felt a little more organic than they are right now. I wish new ideas didn’t have to be labelled so ungraciously, sought out and picked apart in great depth, causing developers to second guess themselves and get stage fright just when they had something good going on.

need-for-speed-carbon-2

The Need For Speed series has been in undeniable decline for the past few years. Iteration after iteration of the same tired formula, Laughable storylines and dialogue which embarrassed even long serving fans of Need For Speed hasn’t exactly pushed the series in any new directions. With the announcement of not one but three new NFS games, EA has really gone out on a whim with the series. Read more… »
