Yesterday Actvision announced that the long awaited Guitar Hero: Van Halen will arrive in time for the holidays on December 22. In celebration of this announcement, the full track list has been released.

Developed by Neversoft, GH:VH will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PS2. The rhythm game will follow the format of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: Metallica. Long time Van Halen fans might be disappointed to find out that only current members of the band (Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen) are playable. Former members Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Gary Cherone have been left out.

Console war can do awful things to a man. In the spring of 2005, I returned from the frontlines of the Playstation 2 Massacre as a decorated Nintendo hero, but the badges I’d drawn onto the jacket I designed in MS Paint were nothing on the badges on my Gamecube memory card.

I saw some awful things on the internet battlefield.

For us older gamers, it wasn’t that long ago that the divide between developer and gamer was significantly more decisive than it has become. Studios like Capcom, Konami, Sega or Atari, would be loathe to talk to anyone outside of the consumer press. They were there to be idolised, viewed through rose glasses as the gaming overlords they were.

The new media landscape that has emerged over the last decade, in particular the last five to six years, has changed everything. No longer can developers hide behind magazines and corporate blocs. Their names are known; they even have blogs, twitters, facebooks and LinkedIns like us commoners.

Scarily enough, they even want to talk to you.

Popcap is back again with another title showing us exactly what they do best. For those of you unfamiliar with Popcap’s gift, it is the ability to create a game that draws you in and think, “ah, this will be a fun ten minutes.” Before you know it, you have carried on playing through the apocalypse, and monkeys have claimed the planet as their own, ruling it as they see fit in their monkey way. Or is that apes?

Semantics aside, let’s get back on track here, and talk about Bookworm Adventures: Volume 2.

Modern Warfare 2

It seems that Activision have hit the big time in terms of expected sales for 2009. Their highly-anticipated sequels, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 have apparently broken pre-sale records, with both titles sitting in the company’s top five pre-ordered games of all time.

And after realizing that Activision has been around for almost thirty years, it becomes even more of an incredible achievement.

One of the most anticipated features of the fast-approaching Xbox 360 dashboard update is undoubtedly the “Games on Demand” service.

horlan6Earlier this week, Ghostfire games announced a new game to hit the WiiWare shelves, Rage of the Gladiator. Expect to see the game released in Fall of this year, as you unleash your might in gladiatorial combat.

Such was the quality of Wipeout HD on the PSN store, Sony could have put it on disc, doubled the price and it still would have received a rapturous reception. With the Fury expansion, the developers at Studio Liverpool look to improve the original and add a lot of new content to the already impressive package.

Are the new tracks, ships and game modes enough to warrant a gold medal on the podium of PSN games? Or does it crash and burn on the first corner? Read more… »

Did you just read the title? Stop…and breathe.

Ok. Now that you’re calm, I’ll break the news again. Starcraft II, according to a press release we just received from Blizzard Entertainment, will not make the Fall 2009 lineup, and will be delayed until 2010.

Whilst nearly every single game is being delayed due to Modern Warfare II, Blizzard has stated that  “it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game.” Read on for the full statement. Read more… »

Becoming a master assassin takes time to train, patience to learn, and skill to succeed.

Of course many of us don’t exactly have time for all that, so might we recommend the Master Assassin’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed II instead?

Surprisingly enough there are some brand new features in Guitar Hero 5! Activision, via Producer Brian Bright, has revealed that the new Rockfest multiplayer mode is a “a suite of new multiplayer game types in Guitar Hero 5 that can be played individually or in teams.”

These new multiplayer modes can be strung together like a playlist, or experienced individually. Each round of multiplayer will now have some sort of new, final goal for the band to reach together. Read more… »
