Impaired driving is a broader concept than drinking alcohol and driving. Drugs other than alcohol such as marijuana and cocaine are involved in about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. These other drugs are often used in combination with alcohol.

Impaired driving is a crime.There are three types of Impaired Driving Intervention Programs (IDIP) that provide education and counseling related to substance abuse:

First Offender Programs
Phase II - Repeat First Offender Programs
Multiple Offender Program
