The Ngorongoro Crater provides a part of Africa's best assets: its extraordinary wildlife and its dramatic scenery. A ten miles wide and 1500 feet deep it is a crater of gargantuan proportions, and is filled with ancient history: once being a volcano that rivalled Mount Kilimajaro's size before eruptions caused it to collapse. Yet it is more than just a part of the landscape as it is also the habitat of around 20,000 animals, including leapords, elephants and buffalo, and so gives you more than enough of your safari fix, and with an incredible backdrop too. The crater shows the diversity of a Tanzania safari terrain as it holds areas of wetlands, woodland, vast spaces of open savannah and a lake, Lake Magadi, which is home to a whole host of waterbirds such as flamingos.
