I'm not saying there's no actual faith that a good game can be made; what I'm saying is that faith can drive people to be fanatical, and make value judgments about things before it's even possible to do so. If you say you're not the kind of person to do that, then I believe you; but, there's no denying that many people will.
...And, truth be told, I seriously doubt Sonic 4 will be the best Sonic game yet or anything like that, if only because there's no playable Tails or Knuckles. So, design-wise, it's already taking some steps backward in the innovation department, even when limiting the scope of games we look at to the Sonic games that are universally accepted as 'good'.
