Not interested one bit. Throwback to the classic Sonic isn't going to fix things. Sonic is an outdated game and should stay in the 16 bit generation.
Well that ended this discussion quite quickly.
I know Japanese - "Tempura, Sushi, SASHIMI!"
Bonus Points to those who can translate it.
I'm excited that it isn't gonna be made by Sonic Team. They would do nothing but jack it up.
But other than that, I'm not sure how much a retro game will do for the series. Why not just play one of the 10 jillion sonic collections? It'll be cheaper and have the same gameplay.
So when Street Fighter said "back to basics" Woot, hells yeah!
Mega Man 512 said "back to basics" Woot, gimme some loving!
Games like Shadow Complex and Darksiders say "heavily heavily influenced by this specific classic" Woot, my breasticles are on fire!
Yet, Sonic says the same thing and everyone's opinion is "pfft, craptacular"
Shame on you, sceptics. Shame on you.
Given their track record Paul, it is more than a valid opinion to have.
This sums up one of my biggest concerns about Sonic 4:
http://jamieobeso.gamerlimit.com/201...to-see-return/
Unfortunately, the music I heard on the leaked trailer doesn't give me a lot of hope in this regard.
My main fear is that this game will do well entirely based on the hype; people will be so happy that they have a 'new' old Sonic game that they'll be willing to condone something of mediocre quality and revere it as a glorious return to its roots. Obviously, I don't know if it's good or bad yet, and I am not hoping it will suck...but, I feel like I see it happen all the time. There are a lot of people have a big-ass boner for anything that tickles their nostalgia bone.
It's not so much "nostalgia bone" as I would class it as a "designer bone" which is much more satisfying kind of bone.
The reason I love the old Sonics, and still play them today to the point where I bought it off XBLA and play it quite often, and my Son plays it too, is because it is a great example of fantastic design. In my youth as well as Sonic I played Rampage, Battle Chess, Zelda 2, Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninjas, and a large amount of other games that if I heard were being remade or a new game was homaging them, I would be about as excited as hearing the Hull City football team just signed a new player, because they were mediocre games.
This isn't a nostalgia trip, it's faith that there might be a good game made.
