I think the action could be done well without stylizing it like Snyder did. Take a look at Ong Bok which is stylish in its own respect, without being flashy or over the top.

I would make the argument that you can successfully make something for film without stylizing it. Take for example car chases in Bourne vs. Fast and the Furious.

I don't know if soulless is the right word, but the book is without any moral tone. It all seems impersonal, like you aren't taking the ride with the characters so much as just watching what happens.
