View Full Version : Do criminal lawyers feel guilty about representing defendants they know are guilty?

The job of a lawyer is to follow the wishes of their clients. If the everyone knew the client was guilty, but they wanted to plead otherwise, the lawyer has little choice but to go with that, or refuse to take the case. They can advise that the client consider a different course of action, but at the end of the day the lawyer has to do as the client requests.

From a moral point of view, most lawyers would say that everyone has the right to a fair trial, and a decent defence - otherwise you don't have a fair justice system. And, of course, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

its their job and if they start doing the same things with their clients then they will find it very difficult to survive and will loose their precious time to groom up their career
