We’re back on our regularly scheduled programming, and as such the Retrocast is back for another week. For all intensive purposes we have temporarily ripped apart the usual format we usually follow to make this all about Final Fantasy. James, Colin, Tim and Chris are again jostling for audio space as we discuss one of the most popular, contentious, discussed and generally controversial series of games in console history.

Be warned, this episode runs a little long…

…a pretty hefty 1hr 43 mins, about 40 mins above our usual running target. That said, if you’re an FF fan, you won’t want to miss it. As part 1 of 2, we discuss the core Final Fantasy titles, from 1 all the way up to 9, discussing what we liked, what we hated, and whether its worth taking a look back and checking them out. It seems some of us differ on what makes a great FF experience, so expect a few arguments. Aside from that, we discuss what we would consider “retro”, console wise, look back at the original Final Fantasy on NES for our “Retro Hour” and try to stay sane during the epic countdown of fantasy.

Next week will have us continue the discussion, covering some of the spinoffs, with some you might have heard about, and others you probably haven’t. Enjoy!

After a short hiatus due to Colin-based injury, the Retrocast is back for yet another episode, and this time we’ve gone down the Adventure path. Your regular cast of nostalgic heroes are back, including James, Tim, Chris and of course, Colin, and this week our “Retro Hour” covers the little known Zelda-clone “Star Tropics”.

There seemed to be an interesting split between the Australian and American rivals this week, so for more information and episode linkage, hit the jump.

Our delayed ‘cast this week provided a distant memory for our 4 members, the Americans being fans of our feature title, the Australians not – James, well, especially not. Some technical difficulties this week affected the sound and participation of Chris and Tim so excuse the “over Aussie-ness”, but rest assured this will be sorted next week. Aside from Star Tropics, we discuss failed mascots, Lode Runner for the XBLA, what constitutes “adventure” and its close relation to the RPG, and a project involving the first Genesis/Mega Drive release in 20 years. Enjoy!

Note: James references the strange tv commercial for “Toe Jam and Earl” in the podcast. We’ve dug it up for you. It’s truly unique.

We all get nostalgic once in a while. For some, its a great time to pull out the SNES and play some Zelda. For others, like us here at Gamer Limit, its an opportunity to do that, then talk about it. Welcome to RetroCast, the premier podcast about everything you used to play and have probably forgotten about. Join myself, James, along with Tim Turi, Colin Robinson, and Chris Carter, as we discuss everything from remakes to why the Simpsons arcade game was superior to Final Fight.

Hit the jump for more on this episode and to stream, subscribe or download the ‘cast.

In our very first episode, we get straight into it. Discussion ranges from our favourite retro systems, to our retro gaming task of the week – Actraiser. Join us as we critique what we loved about this classic, what we hated, and if we “really could continue playing it” after a single hour. As well, we throw the ball around on arcade classics, what’s new in Virtual console, and reminisce on some of our best childhood moments in gaming.

It’s our first cast, so please provide some feedback on what you liked, what you didn’t and what you’d like to hear about next time.
