PS3 Slim

Following the release of the PS3 Slim, it looks as if the console is starting to get the kickstart it so desperately needed. According to VGChartz, preliminary worldwide sales figures have accumilated to over 500,000 over the last week, which is certainly a promising feat for the once struggling console. Consumers had been practically begging for a price cut in order to sway them, and that is exactly what they got.

Around 200,000 units have been sold in other territories (i.e. Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia) and over 150,000 in Japan. At the time of reporting, America has sold over 125,000.

3.0 2

Time to be blunt – the launch of the latest and anticipated firmware 3.0 update for the PS3 seemingly hasn’t gone well. Since its launch, reports have already been surfacing about game freezing and controller issues, which has led to unwanted aggravation for some gamers.

These minor issues aside, the update has promised it has a lot to offer, but was it worth the biblically long downloading time?

So yeah, Chad Warden was right, albeit a little inaccurate in terms of timing. The PlayStation 3 (PS3), or PS-Triple, has finally come around all guns blazing, releasing a trimmed down version of the console for a more affordable price. For those who’ve decided to join the bulimic party, we’ve compiled a list of games that you should get cracking with, or alternately urinate on before they burn your eyes.

Here’s a list dedicated to you, Chad! Read more… »

Being pushed back until next year may have been a good idea after all for Bioshock 2.

eading up to its ex-release date. there wasn’t nearly the same amount of hype which surrounded the first. This multiplayer preview is just the thing to get the hype train out of the station.

Ever wanted to work for the fathers of Playstation? Well, Sony are now giving you the opportunity with the announcement of a new reality series entitled The Tester, which will run exclusively on the PSN this winter. Participants will be the subject of various elimination challenges, with the aim of testing their “mental prowess, dexterity and video game knowledge.” The winner will land themselves a position as a paid games tester, i.e. “The Tester”.

Details can be found on the offcial website – to enter you simply have to record a short video and submit it to the aforementioned website. Are we about to see Sony meets The Apprentice?

It all sounds a bit loose at the moment, but the concept of Sony conducting a reality series is intriguing nonetheless. The only snag? You have to be American to enter. Typical.

psn

A somewhat lacking update this week, although Sony are probably too preoccupied with fixing a few blunders that firmware 3.0 reportedly left for some of us. Buzz Junior: Monster Rumble is the only downloadable game, but there is at least some downloadable content for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin and Disgaea 3, along with a few other bits and pieces.

Hit the jump to view this week’s underwhelming update.

[Edit: A lot of people have been questioning whether or not a number of reviewers have finished the game. I wanted to state, for the record, that I did beat Demon's Souls for this assessment you see here. The total playtime for my first completion was 22 hours/30 minutes, and my final Soul Level was 76 (Thief build) when I met the Old One.]

Challenging games are a rare commodity in the present market of casual “pick up and go” titles. On occasion, a tough title will pop up, only to be deflated by claims of “fake difficulty” or cheap AI.

Simply put: Atlus and From Software’s Demon’s Souls has effectively redefined the term “difficult game” into something much more favorable than what we’re currently used to. There is so much freedom and underlying strategy involved in Demon’s Souls that every time you die, you’ll feel like it’s your own fault. Read on for our review of Demon’s Souls, and learn how to channel your inner masochist. Read more… »

Earlier last week, we had the opportunity to speak with the Senior Games Designer at A2M, Avi Winkler. Other than the bits of answers we gave away, Avi also discussed why WET will wall run, load its guns, do a Ninja backflip and shoot you right on the head once it’s released on September 15.

Want to know why multiplayer was scrapped? Dive inside. Want to know what you get for chaining combos? Shoot inside. Want to know just how sexy Eliza Dushku is? Google is your friend. Good thing the rest of our answers aren’t on Google.

Head inside and learn the latest on Bethesda’s upcoming WET.

PS#3

A Slim model, new firmware, and a large lineup of exclusives and the PlayStation 3 seems to have all the momentum in the world heading into this years holiday season.

After the launch of firmware 3.0, what Sony certainly didn’t need was a handful users reporting crippling problems

controller

Oh dear. The latest firmware upgrade for PS3 was released only a couple of days ago, but users are reporting a couple of slightly significant drawbacks, which are somewhat more significant than the absolute mess that is the new friends list.

It seems that 3.00 isn’t bonding with Uncharted very well – many gamers are citing freezing problems specifically for Uncharted since installing 3.0, with varying degrees of regular intervals.

And now it isn’t even letting you play anything, with reports coming in of users not being able to activate their controllers. Apparently, in some cases the lights on the controller do indeed activate, but the controller remains lifeless, although these are still only isolated incidents. Still, this probably isn’t the smooth launch that Sony was hoping for to say the least.
