EA releases new C&C 4 screenshots
By: | October 13th, 2009

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Command & Conquer 4. Last we reported, EA was looking for fan input on unit names. Today EA sent out nine new screenshots showcasing the new post-apocalyptic setting, as well as some units and effects.

I have to say, before checking out these images I was skeptical of a post-apocalyptic C&C game. Now that I’ve seen them, I am nothing but excited. All the units look incredibly detailed. The landscape is barren, but not lacking in character. The weapon effects all look unique enough to make identifying them on the fly easy.  All in all, I think that C&C 4 is shaping up nicely. But enough of my impressions.

Hit the jump to check out the screenshots. While you’re at it, let us know what you think be leaving a comment below.

CG cut scenes always have had a special place in my heart. For years they acted as reward for finishing levels or defeating seemingly impossible bosses. Dragon Age: Origins, which is set to release early November, has shown us all how pre-rendered cutscenes/trailers should be handled in the ‘next gen’.

Hit the break for the trailer, and marvel all its bloody and brutal glory.

Developer BioWare previously announced that Dragon Age: Origins will receive two downloadable expansions when the game launches November 3. Today the developer released two new trailers showcasing what exactly is in these DLC packs.

The first DLC pack, dubbed the “Stone Prisoner” expansion, will allow a golem, named Shale, to join your in-game party. Featuring unique abilities and a new storyline, the “Stone Prisoner” tasks gamers with discovering the hidden past of this rocky rumbler.

It must be tough to be a Chinese gamer.  After having every game with a gangster in it getting banned back in July, their terrific communist government strikes again: on October 1, the Chinese government launched a campaign to eliminate illegally operated games featuring content they deem “unhealthy.”

So far, over 200 games have been investigated, and forty-five have been straight-up banned.  Many more were given a time limit in which to clean up their acts.  Apparently, they were operating from outside China without prior approval.  And that, in the eyes of the Chinese government, is a no-no.

This week’s beta patch for Heroes of Newerth introduced the latest character to the ever growing hero roster. Sand Wraith is pretty much a straight up port of DOTAs Spectre… except  the gender, and obviously the model have been changed.

Check out the skill set after the break!

[Free-Game Friday is a new weekly feature in which a writer from the GamerLimit staff looks at a completely free game and discusses their experience with it, allowing you to download it at the end. Feel free to check out our full schedule right here!]

Knytt Stories was not what I expected. A minimalistic, short length platformer with your usual fixings, I was prepared for a lighthearted, pixelated adventure – not so much to ask from a freeware game.

As it turns out, Knytt Stories, a creation of indie game designer Nifflas, provides something entirely different. The game makes an excellent case for video games as a form of artistic expression. Yes, Knytt Stories presents the player with a goal and a variety of unlock-able tools for achieving it. Yet the real appeal of this game lies in the experience that it creates.

You just can’t get enough Dragon Age content injected into your veins, can you? It seems like every week we get a new boss trailer: sooner or later, we’ll know how to beat them all before we even get our hands on the game!

This particular video features the Broodmother, a hideous creature that lives below the Dwarves’ place of residency. It looks a lot like the creature from Blade to me, but feel free check out the trailer and see for yourself!

Gamer Limit Review: Aion
By: | October 8th, 2009

Reviewing an MMO is like taking a ride in a supercar. It’s fun at first. Everything is all shiny and new. Promotional material is glossy, promising to provide you with everything you need for an amazing experience. You step in, boot things up and take a ride. It is fun. It does seem to meet its promises. You walk away feeling a little bit giddy and hopeful.

But then reality sinks in. After a few experiences you start to realise that it’s not everything you thought it would be. It performs, but not in the ways that you want it to. Little issues creep up, you pretend to ignore them because, god, it just looks so gorgeous and it handles so well. But there is something missing, an element, a factor that was apparent in the others you tried and ended up enjoying. It’s not bad by any means of the word, but it’s different.

It’s lucky them, if World of Warcraft is the Bugatti Veyron, Aion is the Ferrari Enzo of MMOs.

EVE Online Rap

You might not have ever heard of the developer Crowd Control Productions, typically referred to as CCP, but I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of their cult hit Eve Online.  The company started out small in 1997, as the brain child of three men from Iceland, and has since grown to include offices in the UK, US, and China.

Apparently those crazy guys from CCP don’t have enough work on their hands trying to keep the citizens of EVE Online happy, so they decided to create a rap video for the game’s community.  Create by and starring most of the people from the company, this is easily one of the most incredible developer videos ever created.

Because the video includes swearing I’m including it after the jump, but whether you are a fan of the game or not, you need to check this out. Read more… »
