According to a report from Gamer/Law, Take Two Interactive has lost a lawsuit against Name Administration Inc. (NA Media) over the rights to the URL bioshock.com.

According to the report, the World Intellectual Property Organization legal board who was overseeing the case decided that Take Two had failed to prove that NA Media registered the URL is an attempt to “trade off the value and goodwill of [Take-Two's] Bioshock trademark by diverting users to third-party commercial websites for profit.” The legal board decided in favor of NA Media due to the fact that the company registered the URL in 2004, almost a year before Take Two registered BioShock as a trademark. Over the weekend Valve Software announced that it will release a second batch of DLC for its zombie apocalypse shooters Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Dubbed “The Sacrifice,” this new bit of content tells the story of how one of the original L4D survivors (you know who I’m talking about if you played “The Passing”) bites the big one so his (or her…) friends can keep moving on. The cool thing is, when you play “The Sacrifice,” you get to choose which survivor takes the plunge for his/her homies. While it may not be cannon to the story, it does give you a chance to have some fun with your least favorite survivor (Francis… I’m looking at you).

The best news about this DLC is that it is coming to both L4D and L4D2. On top of that, the campaign No Mercy from L4D is officially being ported over to L4D2. That means you’ll be chainsawing Chargers on the Mercy Hospital rooftop, while trying to avoid being Jockeyed off the edges. Read more… »

While it has yet to be officially confirmed by Valve, Game Informer is reporting that the much anticipated first-person puzzler Portal 2 will hit stores on February 9, 2011. According to the magazine, which first revealed Portal 2 with it’s April 2010 cover story, this release date was confirmed by Valve employees at Gamescom 2010.

Apparently, Game Informer is also reporting that the new robo-buddy Wheatley, seen in the trailers, will be voiced by Stephen Merchant, best known for being the co-creator of The Office. Read more… »

Today publisher THQ announced that strategy game giant Relic will release a second expansion to its popular Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II franchise. Dubbed WH40K: Dawn of War 2 – Retribution, the new expansion promises to add new playable races as well as new game modes and units.

According to producer Jeff Lydell, “We all love the [Space Marine] Blood Ravens here at Relic Entertainment but there are also a lot of fans of the other races and armies out there. [S]o we decided that Retribution should allow the player the freedom to experience the campaign from the perspective they select.” Read more… »

Over the past few weeks Irrational Games has been teasing gamers with a website asking, “What is project Icarus?” Well, yesterday the developer finally let us in on the secret.

Project Icarus turns out to be the code name for a new BioShock title. Dubbed BioShock Infinite, the new game seems to have nothing to do with Big Daddies, Little Sisters or even Rapture. According to an interview with series creator Ken Levine, “We felt like we said what we wanted to say about Rapture. Not about BioShock, not about the gameplay motifs, not about the narrative motifs. But we said what we wanted to say about Rapture, and that kind of space and the kind of combat you have there, and some of the kind of experiences you have there.”

Apparently, BioShock Infinite takes place in 1912 (making it a prequel?) in some sort of steampunk-ish floating city. Unfortunately that’s all we know. On the bright side, Irrational Games was good enough to release the gnarly trailer shown above. Read more… »

Now I’m all for special editions, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Today Activision revealed two tiers of special editions for Treyarch’s upcoming shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops.

First off, there is the “Hardened” edition. This box includes “a custom Black Ops limited edition medal, exclusive Black Ops Avatar outfit, as well as four playable cooperative maps.” Not too shabby, if I do say so myself, but wait for it. Things get pretty crazy with the “Prestige” edition. Read more… »

Great PR stunt, exciting news or a handy distraction to the earlier Duke Nukem Forever rumour?  Either way the news of an unexpected piece of Bordelands DLC is nothing to turn our noses up at.  Gearbox had previously mentioned that the DLC for their highly regarded shooter was now at an end.  That is, until today.

This new slice of DLC goodness sees you trying to quash a Claptrap revolution using one of the original titles four infamous characters.  The fearless foursome find themselves caught up in the middle of civil war between the Hyperion Corporation and the massing army of crazed Claptraps led by the cunning Ninja Assassin.

To be honest the Claptraps were one of my favourite things about Borderlands so this should be a perfect blend of the zany Claptrap humour and the fantastic open world shooting.  Another skill point boost is on hand too which raises the level cap and will allow you to take your characters up to level 71.

Have you ever felt like a game was made solely for you? Well, this is exactly how I felt when a soon-to-be-revolutionary driving game sped onto the PlayStation completely out of nowhere back in 1999.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had an unrelenting admiration for cars, with a particular love of seeing them being bashed about and pushed to their very limits in high speed car chases from Hollywood movies. You could therefore stipulate that I’m a self-confessed fanatic of this particular genre of film, a fact that is testified by my mammoth machinima project Collateral Collision. Apparently I wasn’t alone in my enthusiasm either, seeing that there was another soul who happened to share my passion.

His name was Martin Edmondson (see, we even share the same name: coincidence? I think not), founder and Creative Director of Reflections Interactive who were previously responsible for the Destruction Derby series. If I were to ever meet the man, it’s abundantly clear we would end up spending an endless amount of time nattering away about our favourite car chases. Because just like me, Martin wanted to pay tribute to his infantile fantasy and developed a project of his very own – that project turned out to be not only the ultimate homage to cinematic chases but one of the most influential driving games of the generation; one that is still deeply cherished by its loyal fanbase.

Take a ride with me as we uncover the Wheelman’s untold legacy.

Sony announces EverQuest Next
By: | August 9th, 2010

Some of you guys may remember the  time before World of Warcraft, when the hottest MMO on the block was EverQuest. Well, in an attempt to reclaim the throne of king MMO, Sony Online Entertainment announced the newest installment in its EverQuest franchise.

Currently referred to as EverQuest Next (I can’t imagine this name sicking), the new MMO is said to be more of a “reboot” rather than a sequel. Apparently, in hopes of furthering the idea of a “reboot,” Everquest Next will feature a new “distinctive” art style. Read more… »
