[Every Wednesday Gamer Limit will highlight an indie title: from the iPhone to the Xbox Live Arcade!]

Getting frustrated at games is usually an easy thing to do. Bryan Mitchell’s Geared gives us all a lot of opportunity to get frustrated at the games staggeringly hefty level number.

Thankfully, Geared’s simple ‘trial and error’ game-play formula doesn’t get too frustrating, despite the sometimes glitchy game-play faults.

[Indie Spotlight is your periodic coverage on various popular iPhone games]

Good games entertain us for a while, keep us intrigued until we are done and we place them back on the shelf, rarely or never to be played again. The downloadable game marketplace on all systems is rapidly growing, and the sentimental value of a cheap plastic case on the book shelf may be nearing extinction. Good games go back to the shelf, but great games stick with us for a long time.

Last Cannon is one of those great games.

GamerLimit.StoneLoops

Puzzle games have historically operated on the rule of three. Groups of three, three hits, three colors and three lives.

Stone Loops! of Jurassica doesn’t defer from this rule of thumb, but it implements enough new features and tweaks, which give it a slight edge against similar Zuma-esque games on the app store. Read more… »

[Read on for a bonus contest!]

Games which offer endless possibilities as to how far you can go have always interested me.  This is probably the reason I was so obsessed with the popular flash games Icy Tower and Dolphin Olympics 2.

Lima Sky’s Doodle Jump takes the same concept of climbing to endless heights and spins it in a way which is suited perfectly to the iPhone platform.

The iPhone is usually seen as the wild, crazy new device to play games on. Its accelerometer and touch screen control options make it a very exciting platform to cover and to develop for. Games that don’t usually take advantage of these options such as puzzle games are usually quite the achievers; quick, addictive and easy gameplay makes them perfect for the platform.

Drop7 from Area/Code takes the generic ‘dropping balls’ mechanic of similar games and changes it in a way which makes clearing a line of 7 balls one of the most satisfying experiences on the iPhone platform.

Brought to you by Mind Trick Software, Sentry Alpha delivers the classic ‘Shoot’em up’ experience on the iPhone. Although the twitch based mechanics of many ‘Shmup’s’ is lost in the lack of buttons, Sentry Alpha delivers a hell of a top down shooting experience.

Mecho Wars

Every so often there’s a game which takes elements from genres that you don’t usually find interest in.

Turn based strategy games aren’t my cup of tea, but when I played the newly released Mecho Wars, the entire genre begun to finally make sense.

CozyQuestIn a previous edition of Read, Download, Play, we reviewed the now widely popular iPhone MMO Epic Pet Wars. Since it’s release, another MMO has taken up arms and tried to compete with this now mammoth sized app’s install base.

The question is, does CozyQuest stand a chance?

Epic Pet Wars

As much as I hate the word ”epic” and its recent new found glory amongst the interwebs, Epic Pet Wars is by far the best browser based MMORPG to hit the app store. Browser based MMO games are still really a niche idea. It seems that the free weekends or free one month trials attract lots of users only to have them drop off and leave behind the super hardcore.

Epic Pet Wars is generally the same idea. Start off with a character/pet, level it up gradually by battling other users, do some training and repeat the process. The first thing that Epic Pet Wars does right is that it’s all free, all the time.
