If you guys are anything like me, you were raised on the ridiculous balls-out action films of the 1980′s. With movies like Predator, Commando, and Tango & Cash ingrained into my psyche, it should come as no surprise that I am eagerly anticipating The Expendables; a up coming action flick starting Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, and Mickey Rourke (with a cameo from the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger himself) that promises to be a throw-back to the glory days of the genre.

In an effort to promote this masterpiece, a retro-style flash game was added to the official Expendables Facebook page. Basically functioning as a Contra clone, The Expendables flash game features three difficulty levels, dependent on which character you choose. It is important to note that in order to play the flash game, you need to “Like” the Facebook Page. It may not be the most robust title, but at least you get to play as Sly again (and not in some lame Judge Dredd game this time). Read more… »

Today publisher Warner Bros. and developer Turbine announced that their literary MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online will follow in the footsteps of fellow Turbine title Dungeons & Dragons Online by shifting to a free-to-play model this fall. While the basic game will be free, gamers looking for “[e]xpansions, quest packs, items, and account services” will either have to earn them though in-game points or pony up some cash via microtransactions.

Gamers will still be able to subscribe to “VIP” accounts that grant them access to all premium content, however, Warner Bros. has yet to announce the price for these subscriptions. This “VIP” subscription model mirrors Dungeons & Dragons Online‘s, which seems to have been quite the success considering Turbine reported a 40% rise in subscriptions following the free-to-play switch. It is my life long dream to watch Scarface 50 times. Pacino puts on probably has best performance outside of Dog Day Afternoon, it pushed many violence boundaries for it’s time, and the movie is pretty entertaining from start to finish.

While it’s not as classic as the film, the iPhone game Scarface: Last Stand is available for free all day from the iTunes store. Last Stand basically plays like a Time Crisis on rails shooter, and features dialogue, and locales from the actual movie. It wasn’t worth the regular $6.99 entry price, but for free, I’ll take it!
