.1) Panic builds up beaucse aliens are doing mean stuff without anyone stopping them. This is actually very similar to the original. The major difference is that in the original you could have more than one skyranger and fly out to several simultaneous missions if you so desired. 2) I admit that I did like that build/sell and auto financing things from the original. However, you’d be surprised how many people consider this to be cheating or an exploit. To them if you lose the founding you are supposed to lose. Even Xenonauts which is an other Xcom remake which is very close to the original (with TU and all) made sure that losing funding meant game over. There is no build/sell in that one either.3) I did like the TU and how it really gave you fine control on every units actions. But this new system isn’t all that bad. It’s fun in different ways and for different reasons. You now need abilities to do stuff everyone could do with TU. This makes every soldiers significantly different. You come up with a plan using abilities combos and every soldier have a specific role to do. In the original it didn’t really matter who did what. If someone died you had like 20 extra guy to take it’s place. This also means that you need to get the correct guy in the correct place. Now losing your sniper or losing your assault or something can really throw some nasty wrench in your plan. You have to rethink your strategy all over. This also force you to adapt and change tactics from missions to missions beaucse some guy is wounded or something. Which mix things up nicely and help to prevent a feeling of repetition. This system is also extremely tactical. Who do you bring ? What does everyone bring along ? Those are very very important decisions now. In the original you just brought everyone along (26) with the whole armory and used whomever seems appropriate on site.4) That is totally your fault. I lost my first game beaucse of this as well. Satellite coverage is VITAL. The more satellites you have the more you intercept UFOs (not mentioning extra funding, bonus and panic reduction). You also need to get better interceptors weapons ASAP. I recommend researching heavy lasers. Laser Cannons will be enough to take care of just about any UFOs for a good while. You can also build defensive matrix to get dodge in case something big shows up (don’t sell those floaters corpse away ! As a matter of fact just about any corpse type will have an important usage at some point in this game). Dodge will allow your fighter to survive long enough to gun down bigger UFOs (by bigger I mean really bigger). If you still have interceptors by the time you start seeing to really fast UFOs like a battleship or something you will also need boost (cyberdisk wreckage) otherwise you will only have 3 or 5 seconds to gun down the UFO before it just outruns you.5) I have to admit that this part is often frustrating. But it have to do with hard choices. Things don’t always goes as you’d like in real life either. But if you don’t care much about this element where you pull your hairs out trying to decide who you help, know that you can bypass this to a point. Just save before scanning for UFO. By reloading the game and rescanning you can change the reward and the location of terror sites. This will also work with council missions. So you can get what you need and also lower panic in the area you need most. This will not change the abduction locations but it will change the rewards. You can use this to make every mission meaningful. Missions that you don’t want to skip. This is certainly a from of cheat but if this element is killing your enjoyment of the game perhaps it is best to bypass it. You can do it only in occasions where you feel that you are extra unlikely or something. But as other games with random elements a master learns to win in just about any situation. That said, I do have some disappointment with the game and they are about the same as Angry Joe for the most part. No free aim, no base defense and such.
