[Update: Target has followed Walmart's lead and begun selling the 3DS at $170 early.]

Stop what you’re doing, go to Walmart and buy a 3DS. While Nintendo’s portable console will be receiving an official $80 price cut this Friday, Walmart has jumped the gun and started selling them for $170 early. Apparently, the evil big box isn’t only keen on killing off small businesses in your town, but beating its competitors to the punch.

Fearing the wrath of scorned early adopters, Nintendo is offering 20 free downloadable games to 3DS owners who connect to the eShop by August 12th.  So if you’re planning on picking a 3DS up anyway, why not do it before Friday at the attractive new price point and nab yourself 10 free Gameboy Advance titles in addition to 10 free NES ones?

This article is bursting journalistic integrity out its pee-hole.

  2. I was tempted by this early price drop at first but then I realized I’d rather save the $170 for a Vita

    • Same. The prospect of playing an actual Killzone FPS on a handheld pretty much sells the Vita for me.

Just get it. The Vita isn’t coming out until freaking March 2012: I’m sure at least you, Kevin, can muster up $250 in 7 months :p

    • So, I got it from Target about an hour before the deadline. I get it home and, against the instructions, I boot it up without fully charging. Then, I find out I had to get a system update. Clocks ticking while I update. Then, I find out I have to sync my MyNintendo account (I haven’t logged onto that in such a long time). I’m frantically trying out my various password/username combinations. I finally get it done, log onto the eShop and discover I have to wait till Sept. 1 to get those 20 games. Good news it works! Other good news, I had gotten Ghost Recon, too. Eff Walmart.

My dream retirement is to never ever really have to deal along with the cold of winter or heat of summer. An A-Frame in Vermont as well as a cottage by the sea near Savannah.
