And so begins Gamer Limit Live. Tonight will be a night of Portal Kombat – Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat if it wasn’t already obvious. From 8-9:30pm will be Mortal Kombat and 9:30-11pm will be Portal 2.

Big thanks goes out to Sony and their failure at proper security as this Gamer Limit Live will be a completely offline gaming experience. Expect for future Gamer Limit Live events to allow for some online interaction with its viewers though. Enjoy and be sure to join us in chat after the break. Or, alternatively, watch at Justin.tv.

Update: Well, technical difficulties in the beginning aside, Gamer Limit Live night one was a huge success. Above you can see the night’s activities and, as expected, I failed a lot at Mortal Kombat and Portal 2. Fun nonetheless. And, if the above recording isn’t enough, hit the break for part 2.

Starting Friday April 29th, Gamer Limit will now be providing live streamed video content! Fortunately for me, I now have an even better excuse to play video games each night. Unfortunately for you, you have to watch me fail at things like Portal 2 puzzles and Mortal Kombat ladders. Nonetheless, it is all in good fun.

Each day a post will be made here on Gamer Limit with what I’m playing, the live stream video, as well as the chat. Be sure to follow us on Justin.tv, Gamer Limit twitter, or my twitter to get an update on when the stream is up each night. Currently, the plan is to stream each weeknight from 8-11pm EST and anytime I feel like gaming over the weekend.

Yesterday Sony came clean and admitted that an “external intrusion” (aka hackers) have infeltrated Sony’s servers granting them access to every PSN users’ personal information. So far Sony has admitted that hackers have had access to your name, your address (city, state, and zip), country, E-mail address, birthday, as well as your PSN password and login name. Sony is still trying to determine whether your credit card information is safe.

Obviously this is a very serious issue, and as such I will post Sony’s full statement after the jump. If you’re a PS3 owner, please read through this statement very carefully as it provides some steps you can take to prevent your identity from being stolen. Read more… »

Fearing a tepid reception as a full standalone title, Valve first released Portal with the Orange Box alongside a host of well-established titles at a bargain price. Little did they know that just few short years later that little three-hour long bonus game would be one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved titles in recent history.

Now that they’re back to deliver a full blown sequel, one large question is raised. Does Portal 2 live up to the original, or will we need cake and grief counseling at the conclusion of this review?

Fans of the Rhythm Tengoku games will be excited to hear that the next installment is on the way. Nintendo’s latest Financial Resulting Briefing says Rhythm Paradise will be waggle-free and available to Japanese Wii owners this summer. No word on an American localisation as of yet, so we will probably have to wait for an E3 announcement.

Interestingly enough, the original Rhythm Tengoku was the last game Nintendo developed for the Game Boy Advance. With Nintendo’s next home console supposedly on the way, it looks like history may be repeating itself.

Over the weekend, WikiLeaks began releasing files on Gitmo detainees. Among the mounds of paperwork was a file on Abu Farajal Libi, the supposed operational chief of al-Qaeda. According to the files, Libi directed operations against US and coalition forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On the gaming front, Libi was the mastermind behind turning Sega cartridges into bombs to take out the opposition, according to the release. It’s not clear whether they were Genesis or Master System cartridges, but the documentation did reveal that they would be packed with explosives and detonated via cell phone.

Gamer Limit Review: Rift
By: | April 25th, 2011

In a market dominated by World of Warcraft, competitors need to do everything in their power to set themselves apart. Many MMOs have come and gone since Blizzard graced us with the world of Azeroth – some failed miserably while others resorted to the free-to-play market. But as many, including myself, have found out since Cataclysm, World of Warcraft has grown tired and uninspired. There is no better time for an MMO to step up to the plate than now.

“We’re not in Azeroth anymore.” A tagline that boldly tells gamers that Rift has in store for them something they have yet to experience. But has Trion created a game unique enough for the diverse community of MMO players out there? Does it have the legs to stand side by side with the beast itself? Read more… »

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network are all about second chances, which is nothing if not what Beyond Good and Evil deserves.  The game, which was released in 2003, was critically acclaimed but a commercial failure and the trilogy envisioned by designer Michael Ancel (best known for the Rabbids series) seemed uncertain.  The series has emerged stronger than ever: Not only is Beyond Good and Evil 2 in the development pipeline but the first Beyond Good and Evil is up at bat again with a shiny new coat of HD graphics.

Does it withstand the test of time when so many games from generations past have aged badly?  Read on to find out.

Yakuza 3 was a turning point for the Yakuza series outside of Japan.  It received a lot more attention, a much warmer reception, and evidently made enough of an impression for Sega to give us the sequel, Yakuza 4 just a year later.  Yakuza 3 may have been loaded with cutscenes and exposition but nonetheless had a very exciting combat engine, a quirky Japanese sense of humor and a ton of fun things to do in its open world whether you were interested in underground fight clubs or playing retro Sega titles at in-game arcades available throughout the city.  Yakuza 4 introduces new characters and a new story arc but keeps a lot of things from the third game intact.

How does Yakuza 4 stack up to its predecessor?  Hit the jump to check out the fourth story in this yakuza crime saga.

Today it was discovered that the ESRB has rated the classic SNES JRPG Chrono Trigger for both the PlayStation 3 and the PSP.

Original released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, Chrono Trigger is widely considered to be one of the best videogames, let alone RPGs, ever made. Telling the story of the young boy Chrono and his band of buddies who travel through time trying to save the world from the evil monster Lavos, Chrono Trigger features an amazing story line combined with the classic Square Enix combat system seen in game like Final Fantasy VII.
