Today, Capcom has confirmed its latest Resident Evil title – Operation Raccoon City. The publisher is partnering with SOCOM Confrontation developer Slant Six Games to develop the franchise’s first third-person team-based shooter.
The game will follow the Umbrella Security Service through the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. While not much is known about the title, Capcom has teased three-way competitive multiplayer between US Spec Ops, Umbrella security forces, and the infected threat of zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be landing on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this winter.
OH HELL YES. Back to when zombies were zombies!
I found the 3DS Resident Evil Mercenaries game extremely appealing, due in part that the Mercenary segments were the most fun. Now a Resident Evil like L4D? AWESOME! Some could argue that too many developers are ripping the L4D page out of valves catalog, but this seems more promising than most online co-op titles. I remember reading an article in Game Informer a few years ago that had some game developer explain how he would handle a resident evil title. His idea was similar to this except only civilian survivors compete for munitions and supplies, which would be limited, increasing the tension between competing groups.
Sounds cool on paper but I hope they try to be more than a L4D clone. Meanwhile what the hell?!? We get umbrella agents, zombie teams, us spec ops (when were they ever in RE 1 or 2?), but no team based on the Racoon City STARS unit?
It’s actually going to be in Third-Person and get this…YOU CAN MOVE AND SHOOT! Color me excited.
At the same time, do you trust Slant Six to do a good job? I didn’t really like their SOCOM title …
