Swedish publisher Pan Vision announced that their iOS title Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies vs Pandas: Puzzle Wars is now available for download from the App Store.

It looks like the developers took a kitchen sink approach judging by how many pop culture memes they appropriated for this game. Hit the jump for more details about PvNvZvP: Puzzle Wars. (I refuse to type out the full title again) Read more… »

As some of you may know, the website GJAIF has posted an article regarding a piece we put up in the last twenty four hours, that some felt…was unseemly…to say the least. I want to clarify Gamer Limit’s stance on these types of articles.  Some time ago, I released an article titled “Resident Evil is Racist” – it contained a number of jokes that were racially sensitive (including Caucasians). Sadly, I had to put a disclaimer on it, because I knew that some people would take it seriously, and rage into the depths of Brinstar. Ever since I took over for the site, myself, and my subsequent Editors, have made it clear that it Gamer Limit is not a venue for pure offensive content for the sake of being offensive – there are plenty of other outlets for that. It is our general policy to state “this is a parody”, to prevent new users from being turned off from our great community.

I can vouch for Kyle’s character, and safely say that he is a good guy, who clearly didn’t mean any harm. Gamer Limit, as an entity, is never out “just for hits”, or “to shock people” – the article was a parody. However, parody as it may be, it was posted to the front page without proper review, and for that, I apologize – as a general rule we do not allow lists on the site, and this one slipped by (as a cynic, I would find that hard to believe, but hey, this is coming from a cynic!). For the past few years, I believe myself and my cohorts have ran a pretty tight ship, but you can’t stop everything, especially for a smaller, independent site such as ourselves. We do have a proper procedure for “OKing” these types of articles through our staff forums, where a number of staffers are able to look at a particular topic, to see if it’s something that fits our mission statement. However, Kyle should not have to apologize for the actual content of the article, as it clearly was a parody, which our site’s history will reflect (as will this commenter – Thanks Anonymous!).

Watchdogs as a whole are great for the industry, but our contact information is directly posted on the site, and fairly easy to access. It would have been really easy to reach out to me for a comment before grabbing your pitchfork, and walking off into the sunset. I’m always available for comment via email if you have any questions regarding our content in the future. I also read GJAIF on a weekly basis, so imagine my surprise when we were plastered all over it!

Edit: I should also probably take the time to thank GJAIF for holding people accountable for their actions. While the methodology is sometimes rudimentary (as in this case), the fact that it is happening at all is a sign of good times for the gaming industry as a whole. The methodology itself is just about as developed as the industry is – which is to say, GJAIF are brave souls for venturing out into this unknown territory.

Edit 2: The comments were getting out of hand, to the point of cruelty, so I closed off the comment section. However, some took this as a sign of shutting out criticism, so I’m unlocking them. Please refrain from personally insulting Kyle, and the comments will stay open. I rolled the post back, so some comments late last night are lost in the abyss – feel free to write back if you had something – nothing was hand deleted.

Last Fall, I wrote a preview for an awesome little game called Slam Bolt Scrappers.  I had the opportunity to play the game and meet Massachusetts based developer Fire Hose Games. I remember them distinctly from all the developers on the PAX ’10 Showfloor because they wore firefighter helmets. That, and one of them heckled me to get me to play his game.

I’m glad I he did. When I wrote my preview, I likened the game to a cross between Super Smash Bros. and Tetris. I think its fantastic when genres collide, and this puzzler/fighter definitely peaked my interest. Today, over at the PlayStation Blog, Fire Hose Games announced that Slam Bolt Scrappers will be hitting PSN on March 15th.

So I’ve always been more of a PSP guy, but I’ve been a Zelda fan for waaaay longer. These new Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D screens are absolutely beautiful and really have me second guessing myself on which next-gen handheld I’m going to pick up.

Like pretty much everyone who ever touched an N64, Ocarina of Time was my jam back in the day. I have a feeling that Nintendo is going to sell a lot portables to nostalgic fans that they didn’t even know they wanted a 3DS. Seriously, if they remake Majora’s Mask its done…give all my moneys to Nintendo.

In addition to showing off the new trailer for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Iwata also revealed a new Super Mario title for the 3DS. Iwata spoke briefly about the problem of depth that 3D platformers have had since the days of the N64, and that the solution for these issues lies in the 3DS.

Curiously, the logo for the upcoming game also features a tail. Will we be seeing a return of the Super Leaf or Tanooki Suit from Super Mario Bros 3? For the answer to that question, Iwata says we’ll have to wait until E3. Read more… »

Nintendo revealed a brand new trailer for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword today during Iwata’s keynote address. While they maintain that the game isn’t quite finished yet, it sure is looking good to me.

During the keynote Iwata also spoke briefly about Zelda’s upcoming 25th anniversary, but didn’t reveal any specific details about how Nintendo would be commemorating the event. If you have any ideas in how you’d like to see them do that, take it to the comments.

Remember when I told you about this little game Magicka that is selling like hotcakes? Well, today publisher Paradox Interactive announced that there is an expansion coming to the popular action-RPG. The thing is, rather than tossing players into more dungeons and the like, developer Arrowhead decided to do something out of the norm; put Magicka in the Vietnam War.

That’s right, taking a cue from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Magicka will allow players to lightning bolt and fireball Charley back to the Stone Age. Why put a fantasy action-RPG in the Vietnam War? Why not!? Paradox asks, “Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if wizards were allowed to roam the jungles of war-torn Vietnam, attempting to bring peace and stability to the region by casting spells on all opponents?” Read more… »

Gamestop screwed up earlier today and posted a little something involving a North American release of Atlus’ Japanese chart conquering title Catherine. This seems to have forced the publisher’s hand into launching a website earlier today.

While Atlus doesn’t confirm any specific date, it appears as if the game will be available at some point this summer. Long story short: Catherine is coming to North America and that is awesome!

I have good news and I have bad news.

Two years ago  Gaijin Games gave us Bit. Trip Beat. That little retro-rhythm title gave birth to one of my favourite series’ of all time. Sadly, the saga of Commander Video ends today. The sixth and final title in the series, Bit.Trip FLUX, landed on WiiWare earlier today. While, I am happy that Gaijin Games will be moving on to what will hopefully be bigger and brighter things, it will certainly sadden me to download the final title in this series.

A demo for Pong Toss Pro – Frat Party Games has also landed on the White Box O’Waggle’s online service. Let me just say that while I’m certain it is going to be terrible, I am unbelievably stoked there is a Beer Pong videogame available -for free- that I can share with all my “frat bros” for a good laugh. Hit the jump for the rest of this week’s downloadables.
