Last month, Gamer Limit gave a nod to The Next Big Thing, Pendulo Studios’ latest point-and-click adventure due out in March. Whether or not you’re into the forays of point-and-click, this is quite a special title if only for the fact that the studios are literally the next big thing to come out of Spain. Over here in the states and up until now, point-and-click is synonymous with one name — Telltale Games. Not to knock the San Rafael, CA based company (who out there can say anything truly bad about Back to the Future The Game?), and not to forget Lucas Arts’ heyday, but, growth in this genre has been relatively slow due to the apparent monopoly. Pendulo aims to change things with this, their sixth title.

To ramp up The Next Big Thing‘s release, the studios have just created their own Youtube channel. A new video released today highlights Liz Allaire, the leading lady in this cinematic and sleek, comedic and carefree adventure. Of course, it had to be in Spanish, which is okay since we translated it for you.

Yesterday Activision announced some news that has some pretty major effects on the gaming industry. First off, the publisher has canceled the open-world action title True Crime: Hong Kong.

While this may be upsetting to some gamers, the real heavy hitting news is that Activision has eliminated its Guitar Hero and DJ Hero franchises “due to continued declines in the music genre.” Both teams working on the GH and DJH franchises have been hit with “severe layoffs.” Read more… »

When I was just nine years old, in 1995, You Don’t Know Jack was released on PCs everywhere, and took the quiz genre by storm. Never before had a game truly attempted to present itself as a controversial game show, where you could actually learn something to boot. While it was definitely not for kids (one sequence, called “three way” involved answering questions in rapid succession, with correct answers cueing a female orgasm sound effect), I couldn’t pry myself away from the game: the host “Cookie Masterson” was just too hilarious for his own good.

After a string of semi-successful sequels, and even a short lived TV Gameshow starring Paul Reubens, the series kind of just disappeared into obscurity, only to be resurrected in 2011 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and DS. Does it retain the same magic, over a decade later? Read more… »

Gamer Limit Review: Explodemon!
By: | February 10th, 2011

For a sub-genre that never really existed before a few years ago, explosion platformers have really taken off. Between ‘Splosion Man, MaXplosion, and the recent Explodemon!, there are more than enough excuses to get out there and start blowing stuff up.

At first glance, it would seem like Explodemon! is trying to capitalize on ‘Splosion Man’s success. However, most people aren’t aware that Explodemon was actually in development years before ‘Splosion Man was ever announced. Because of this misconception, I’m sure it will get some undeserved flak: which is a shame, because it’s a pretty fine game, and actually quite different in concept. Read more… »

2K Games announces The Darkness 2
By: | February 8th, 2011

After a long period of speculation, 2K Games has finally broken down and announced that mafia hitman turned supernatural killing machine Jackie Estacado will return in The Darkness 2.

Slated to arrive sometime this Fall on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, The Darkness 2 picks up the story two years after the events of the first game. Featuring the same great “deep and twisted storytelling” and “stylistic violence,” The Darkness 2 also promises some new features including a new “hand-painted graphic noir” style and the ability to fire guns while going all Doc Ock with your tentacles (an ability 2K is calling “Quad-wielding”). From Twitter “@TimOfLegend: I think in the last shot you can see a reflection of Greg naked.” Double Fine Productions founder Tim Schafer jokes after watching a video made by Greg Rice, also of Double Fine. The video in question is a stop motion animation promoting Double Fine’s latest title, Stacking, released Tuesday on Playstation Network, Wednesday on Xbox LIVE. Gamer Limit lets you know why this video does more than just add to the nifty nouveau nature of the puzzle adventure.

Today Ubisoft sent out a press release announcing that a new sequel in the Call of Juarez franchise will be hitting the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime this summer.

Dubbed Call of Juarez: The Cartel, the third title in the series promises to take gamers out of the Old West and drop them off in Modern times. The game’s story will take gamers on an adventure that will span Los Angeles to Juarez, Mexico. Judging by the title, chances are the game will deal with the drug trade and gang violence that plagues the real city of Juarez, Mexico. The development is being handled by the Polish team Techland, who also made Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Read more… »

Nintendo DLC Update: 2/7/11
By: | February 7th, 2011

Welcome to another exciting week of downloables for a Nintendo console near you. In my opinion, the real winner this week is the LIT demo. In case you missed it when it was first released, LIT is a horror puzzler. Now that there is a free version I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Shawn Johnson Gymnastics and a host of other titles also await you after the jump.

All you Call of Duty junkies out there better cancel your weekend plans – it’s double XP weekend! Everything you do, from something as simple as killing another player for +50, to shooting down an enemy spy plane for +150, counts double. After all the dust clears, I predict an awful lot of 15th Prestige players out there by the time the sun comes up Monday morning.  The double period starts at 1PM EST today, and ends sometime Monday morning (my guess would be around 5AM EST).

Personally, I don’t have a real big problem with double XP weekends, but I can see why some people don’t like it. There are a lot of people out there who have spent tons of time in Black Ops honing their skills the last few months, and achieving 15th Prestige in a short amount of time, only to be matched by people who happen to log on this weekend. Either way, make sure you at least try some Demolition, because anytime you plant a bomb, it’ll earn you a sweet +1200. Read more… »

After riling its PC fanbase with the cancellation of Battlefield 1943 and Onslaught, DICE seem keen to swiftly make amends as today marks the first peek at Battlefield 3, the official successor to the highly influential PC hit Battlefield 2 from 2005.

While it may not come as that big of a surprise considering all the delays, it still stings a bit to hear developer DICE finally confirm that the PC versions of Battlefield 1943 and the Onslaught Mode DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have been axed.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, general Manager of DICE, said the cancellation was “to balance work on the new against the already shipped, prioritizing the amount of energy spent on the known franchises and the time spent on developing something entirely new.”
