World of Warcraft is an international phenomenon. With millions of subscribers shelling out $15 a month just to play, Blizzard is in a pretty good position to keep pumping out expansions and patched content, leading more and more people to become sucked in to the world of Azeroth. Yet as of late, some people have said that WoW has lost a lot of steam with the recent expansion, leading a lot of core gamers to make the claim that “the game is too easy”.

Enter World of Warcraft: Cataclysm; the newest expansion, and Blizzard’s latest attempt to make the game “hard again” – an admirable conviction in which they succeed. But Blizzard hasn’t just made the game more rewarding for hardcore players: they’ve also redone every level 1-60 zone in the entire game, and streamlined the entire questing and leveling experience as we know it. Read on to find out why you may want to get back into World of Warcraft. Read more… »

Gamer Limit Review: Rhythm Zone
By: | December 14th, 2010

I’m sure this has happened to all of us. You’re hanging out with some friends playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band (whichever rhythm game you please) and the conversation inevitably turns to “Man, what songs would be awesome to play but will never get into the game because EA or Activision doesn’t care about X music scene?”

How great would it be if there was a rhythm game just like Guitar Hero where you got to choose which songs you play? Well, if you’ve asked yourself this, chances are you’ll want to check out Rhythm Zone, an indie gem that allows gamers to play a Guitar Hero-like game with their own MP3s. But a good concept does not instantly make a great game. Is Rhythm Zone a must have for music gamers, or does it miss a beat in its execution? Read on to find out. Read more… »

You may already be familiar with this week’s big title if you have an iPhone. However, now Wii owners have the opportunity to enjoy Different Cloth’s lilt line.  lilt line is “an award-winning rhythm racing game with a dubstep soundtrack and a visual aesthetic that will confound your senses and rock your soul.” lilt line makes its way to the Wii-Ware service  as Gaijin Games’, the developer behind the Bit.Trip series, first attempt at publishing. Lacking a touch screen, lilt line‘s Wii release reportedly features similar controls to those of Bit.Trip Beat.

I had the opportunity to speak with Gaijin Games CEO Alex Neuse  in Los Angeles during E3. He seemed excited, but a little nervous about lilt line and Gaijin Games’ first foray into the publishing world. Do these guys a favour and try out lilt line. A free demo version is available via Wii-Ware for a limited time, so you really have no excuse not to at least try this sweet rhythm-racer out.

Hit the jump for the rest of this week’s releases.

Now here’s a sentence I didn’t think I would ever be writing at one point: Gran Turismo 5 is here. Complete. Finished. Ready for retail. I know, I’m just as flabbergasted as you are. And yet here I am cradling a real, physical copy of Polyphony’s long overdue new-born baby.

Kaz Yamauchi’s devoted drive for perfection has meant that GT5 has been in development since the dawn of time, incurring several disappointing delays – it was originally meant to leave the forecourt in 2008. Mind you, this is the same developer who stated Gran Turismo PSP would be a launch title.

Over four main iterations, Gran Turismo has enjoyed considerable success and recognition for shaping the racing simulation genre, creating a global icon whilst sitting safely in a class of its own. Times have changed however, and as 2007’s Gt5 Prologue became GT5 Prolonged, the competition has become ever more turbulent since GT4’s release back in 2004, with the likes of Forza Motorsport shadowing its slipstream. Can Gran Turismo get back into the race or has it run out of fuel after such a long pit stop?

Hot on the release of Gran Turismo 5, Forza Motorsport 4 has been announced in a new debut trailer from VGA 2010.

Details are scarce at the moment other than the fact it will launch in “Fall 2011″.

Note to Polyphony: it’s taken six years for Turn 10 to churn out four Forza Motorsports compared to five Gran Turiusmos in 14 years.

It’s looking like 2011 will be the centre of the big three for Sony, as Resistance 3 joins Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 in next year’s first party line-up.

We’ve known about Resistance 3 for some time now, but VGA 2010 produced not only the very first gameplay footage in a debut trailer, but also confirmed that the Chimera’s next attack is scheduled for September 6th 2011.

It’s been three years now since Resistance 2, and the original was an important launch title for the PlayStation 3 – is it just me who misses this franchise?

As promised earlier this week, the VGA 2010 saw the premiere of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, showing the full version of the teaser trailer.

The trailer also revealed the release date will be November 1st 2011. And before you ask: yes that is indeed actual gameplay footage near the end. Excited yet?

Gamer Limit Review: Epic Mickey
By: | December 11th, 2010

When Warren Spector, of Dues Ex and Thief fame, was announced as the Director of the new Mickey Mouse game, I was shocked. Generally Mickey’s forays into the video game world are overflowing with cuteness – something Spector doesn’t really project in his games.

Now I’m no stranger to Disney – I used to live ten minutes from the Magic Kingdom, I own almost every animated feature on video, and I love all the classic SNES Mickey titles. If you’re like me, odds are you’re going to get more enjoyment out of Epic Mickey. If not, read on to find out why you may want to be more cautious.

Update: the full trailer was shown at VGA 2010 and can be seen here.

Brace yourself: Uncharted 3 is confirmed to be in development and will be launched in 2011.

Revealed as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, a first look from Entertainment Weekly confirms the next instalment will follow Drake and Sully as they embark on a journey through a lost city, encompassing locations including Rub’ al Khali Desert as seen in the screenshot above.

Gameplay additions are said to include the ability to fight multiple enemies at once and backward climbing, along with an expanded multiplayer. Entertainment Weekly also revealed an all too brief teaser trailer for the game, but the full reveal will be premiered at the VGA awards this Saturday, December 11.

You know I hate to admit it but every now and then Twitter comes in handy. Take today for instance: had I continued to resist signing up for Twitter (like I had for the longest time) I wouldn’t have known about Tripwire Interactive’s upcoming event for Killing Floor (one of my favorite games).

According to Tripwire’s tweet, the developer will be hosting a special Christmas themed event for its Horde Mode shooter. Dubbed “The Killing Floor Twisted Christmas” this special event will feature Christmas themed monsters, a new “Santa’s Evil Lair” map, thirteen new achievements and an unlockable “the Baddest Santa” character. The most exciting title hitting Nintendo’s downloadable services this week is Fluidity. I had an opportunity to play this title while at PAX. It’s a fun, physics-based puzzle platformer and it’s definitely worth a look. The game puts you in control of a flow of water, and rotating the Wii remote will rotate the scenery and will allow you to navigate the water through the mazes which make up the title’s levels.

A demo of the game is also available on Wii-Ware…so you have no excuse to try this title out.

The rest of this week’s titles await you after the break.
