In the past, I’ve been pretty critical of Microsoft and their supposed support of the PC platform. That being said, I have to give credit where credit is due. Since releasing their new Games for Windows Marketplace application, Microsoft has been offering some pretty damn good deals on PC games. It’s hard to argue against a $0.99 game deal everyday.
Today’s $0.99 game is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, one of my personal favorites, which is why I felt obligated to let everyone know about this stellar deal. In order to jump on this deal all you need to do is head over to the Games for Windows Marketplace website, download the client, and make your purchase.
You know note that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. does not require Games For Windows Live, Microsoft’s lame attempt at bringing the Xbox Live experience onto the PC.
For those of you who haven’t heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., allow me to give you the basic run down. The game takes place in Chernobyl where the rampant radiation has cause not only the animals to mutate, but the actual Earth as well. You play a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers and Robbers) someone who risks their life to sneak into these radiated zones to get their hands on various artifacts (unnatural things created by this radiation) in order to sell them. The game plays out like a FPS/RPG with a sharp learning curve (I’m talking about using bandages to stop bleeding, inventory management, weapon cleaning/upkeep, etc.). While you don’t ever really level up like in tradition RPGs, you do acquire artifacts which modify your abilities and stats. This may sound overwhelming, but trust me, once you get the hang of it S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is by far one of the most engrossing titles of the last five years. out there, or is it just me?
Are there any other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans out there, or is it just me? Also, what are your impressions of the new Games For Windows Marketplace? Let us know what you think with a comment below.
