Tiger Woods PGA Tour continues to be the goto golf game around. And with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 being the best in franchise history, John Daly’s ProStroke Golf has some stiff competition. However, with plenty of room for improvement in Tiger Woods, it is more than possible for the best to be upended.

Considering the preview at E3 showed real promise, my hopes for another golf game to depend on each year was looking up. Unfortunately, John Daly’s ProStroke Golf falls quite short in both content and presentation. The application of PlayStation Move’s technology on the other hand is more than impressive. Read more… »

As soon as I heard the announcement for the Rock Band 3 keyboard, I immediately chanted the old Wayne’s World mantra: “she will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine”. I have to admit, my wife is the pianist of the household: I’m not very good with keys of any kind. But, like any good student, I’m willing to learn; and like any good teacher, Rock Band 3 has some great lessons.

Read on to find out if Rock Band’s newest fully functional MIDI instrument is worth the plunge.

In an announcement that is sure to please Battlefield fans like myself who have been craving for new content, the next VIP Map Pack, VIP Map Pack 7, for Bad Company 2 will feature four entirely new maps, rather than the unlocked modes disguised as new maps that we have been “treated” to in the past.

Not all of them are completely new however: reworked versions of fan favourites Oasis and Harvest Day are making a return from the original Bad Company game.

EA announces Battlefield Play4Free
By: | November 5th, 2010

Today EA announced that it will make a second attempt to capture the free-to-play audience with it’s upcoming first-person shooter Battlefield Play4Free (The first attempt being the failed Battlefield Heroes). Slated to arrive on the PC in spring 2011, Battlefield Play4Free mixes two of the series’ most critically acclaimed titles: Battlefield 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

According to the press release, Battlefield Play4Free combines “the most popular maps from Battlefield 2 with the familiar classes and powerful weapons of Battlefield: Bad Company.” Development of the game is being handled by EA’s Easy studio who also worked on Battlefield Heroes. Read more… »

Much ado has been made about the addition of keyboards, a wildly overhauled pro guitar controller, and their respective pro modes within Rock Band 3. However, the hoopla for the new pro drums mode seems to be far less intense.

With that said, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time with the pro drums since the game’s release in order to gather my thoughts on both the hardware itself and the pro drums game mode. Read on for my conclusions on both.

It seems that now-a-days your game isn’t a triple-A title unless it has some sort of social media tie in. It should come as no surprise to gamers that EA’s next iteration of the Dragon Age series will be preceded by a Facebook minigame.

Dubbed Dragon Age Legends, this promotional strategy RPG is said to give gamers their “first taste” of the Free Marches, the setting of Dragon Age 2. According to EA 2D general manager Mark Spenner, “Dragon Age Legends will deliver a deep, sophisticated experience, and we will continue to delight gamers by adding new features and content far into the future.” Read more… »

Let me begin this review by asking a question: Why did LucasArts decide to release a sequel to The Force Unleashed?  It can’t have anything to do with the fact the first game got poor to mixed reviews by most critics.  The developers probably weren’t interested in continuing the story either, because all the main plot points were wrapped up at the end of the original and the main character, Starkiller, sacrificed himself to save the day.

No, The  Force Unleashed 2 was most likely made because the first game ended up becoming the fastest selling Star Wars title, and the fastest selling LucasArts title, of all time.  Who cares that the ending of the original didn’t really lend itself to a sequel?  This is science fiction after all, and anyone can be brought back to life with a little bit of creative thinking, but is Starkiller’s resurrection worth your hard earned money?  Hit the jump to find out. We have experienced that sensation of regret after trying out a new game for the first time. Luckily, there are plenty of options to return or sell back these stinkers. However, as we move towards a future where physical media no longer exists, our options to combat buyer’s remorse are fading away. Demos attempt to solve these issues, giving gamers a taste of the action before they throw down their hard earned cash. It even gives developers and publishers an opportunity to draw in an audience that might not have been aware or interested in their title.

Yet, Nintendo’s Wii-Ware service has been largely devoid of demos – in a frustrating contrast to all of its competitors. For a brief time Wii owners could enjoy snippets of titles like World of Goo and Bit.Trip Beat, but the idea was scrapped before it even really found its legs. Luckily, Nintendo is bringing demos back to the console.

Hit the jump for the titles you’ll be able to try this Friday.

Poor old Sonic. Two decades ago he was a leading mascot figure on the face of every lunch box, defining SEGA and spawning one of the greatest rivalries in the industry. Since then, teary-eyed fans have watched as their beloved blue hedgehog became a shadow of his former self in the transition to 3D, resulting in a seemingly endless supply of dismal games that didn’t do the license justice.

It’s only taken them 16 years too long, but SEGA has finally seen sense and are gladly dismissing that anything after the original Sonic trilogy ever existed. Enter Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, a high definition revamp of the classic 2D formula that aims to finally redeem the faltering franchise. Is this the game that Sonic fans have been patiently yearning for?
