Today Sony revealed some details about its new, free incentive program called PlayStation Rewards.
Granting gamers numerous goodies such as avatars, themes, and more, the Playstation Rewards system is based on gamer participation. Other benefits to this reward program include the opportunity to enter “sweepstakes and giveaways,” the first of which includes an “all expenses paid trip” to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
According to the press release, Playstation Rewards members will be split into three tiers: Select, Pro, and Legendary. While it wasn’t explicitly stated, I assume that the higher tier you are, the better (more exclusive?) your rewards will be. In order to climb tiers, users will have to participated on the PlayStation.com Forums, answer surveys, download demos, use PlayStation Home, and purchasing content from the PlayStation store.
Launching tomorrow, Sony has stated that the first wave of invites will be sent out to “highly engaged” PlayStation owners. The senior director of PlayStation Network also added, “If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.”
For now the PlayStation Rewards program will be exclusive to the U.S., with Sony “looking into rolling out to Canada.”
What do you guys think about this? Is this a good way for Sony to motivate it’s consumers? Are you more likely to fill out surveys if you’ll get a new avatar or theme? Let us know what you think with a comment below.
