Like most of you, I have an unhealthy fascination with Minecraft, the indie block based adventure/construction game. Today Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson shed some light on the new features we can expect when the Halloween update goes live.
According to Notch, “There are six new block types (five of them have unique abilities), one new monster, a new dimension, and a couple of bug fixes. Once I get the portals working, I’ll have something very interesting going and I’ll spend the rest of the time leading up to the release adding new smaller features and polishing stuff.”
“Portals?” you ask. Well according to one of Notch’s tweets, “you will eventually be able to link servers with portals.” While this is thrilling news to us Minecrafters, Notch made sure to emphasise that the implementation of these portals is “NOT SOON.”
What do you guys think about this? Are you excited for some new block times and a new monster? On a side note, what are some of your favorite Minecraft stories or things you’ve built. Let us know with a comment below.

I lost my save file after I had used over 50h building fortresses, bridges, minecartstations, underground passages etc etc.
I actually feel kinda relieved not having that save anymore.. but I will start playing again when this update comes out…
I have absolutely no idea what this is, other than it has a Team Fortress 2 port for some reason. Is this something I should look at, or am I better off staying away? (As a random aside, can it be played without a mouse?)
You should really try this out. It’s an incredibly fun and creative game. After a while, you even begin to like the graphics.
I am running a server where me, my wife, and two friends are building mines like moria, sky towers and excibitions featuring zombies! Although at the moment the multiplayer is a little bit more alpha than the single player. Hopefully the halloween patch will fix that.
If you like creative games, this is for you. If you only like fast action FPS games, maybe you’ll get bored with it. Just my two cents.
It’s funny to me that so many people have built such huge incredible structures while I, who have put countless hours into this game, mining and farming and planting and everything else a person can do in this game, have only been able to build two skyscrapers (13 stories each!) that reach to the clouds. Compared to other projects I’ve seen on the internet I’ve got nothing.
I also haven’t been able to build any portals or working mine carts, nor have I used Redstone for a single project.
I need to get to work, huh?
LOL Minecraft is the best, even if some think it’s a 90s game I can’t stop playing. Fortunately it runs flawless on my netbook so I can play in the world of Notch everywhere. However I have a question and Notch sheds some light on the Minecraft Halloween update | Gamer Limit seems like a relevant website so hopefully somebody can help me. Can anyone give me advice how to setup a LAN Minecraft server? Gracias. xxx Gabriela
