UPDATE: The comic has been released and can be found here.

Some of you may remember when I posted a little news item about Left 4 Dead getting a little back story courtesy of a four-part online graphic novel produced by Valve. Well, it just so happens that the first issue is scheduled to arrive today!

While it currently is not up on the Left 4 Dead blog just yet, Valve did post some pretty gnarly wallpapers based on the comic. As soon as the comic goes live, I’ll update this post with a link. Read more… »

Nintendo DLC Update: 9/13/10
By: | September 13th, 2010

Another week, another Nintendo Download, another morning where I wake up only to realize I still have ConSars. If you were the person who sneezed on the controller at Kirby’s Epic Yarn or hacked up all over Killzone 3…you deserve myNotebook Tan.

So, if you are like me and are confined to your bed because someone was selfish and decided to give their germs to 70,000 people in a small room, why not kick back with some new downloadable games?

Over the weekend mega-retailer Walmart helped refuel rumors that Team Ico’s masterpieces, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, are headed to the PS3 by listing a Blu-ray Disc on its website bundling the two games together.

Over the past few years, numerous anonymous “industry sources” has told various media outlets that this bundle is indeed real and will hit stores around March or April 2011. These rumors also said that the bundle would cost $40, the price Walmart has the game listed for on their site. Read more… »

The existence of this DLC hasn’t been a surprise since April and the discovery of Liara’s audio files in the PC version of Mass Effect 2. We even knew that we would be confronting the Shadow Broker well in advance, but the forewarning doesn’t ruin the fun of Lair of the Shadow Broker one whit.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is a tie-in to the four-issue Mass Effect: Redemption prequel series published by Dark Horse Comics. Redemption tells the story of Liara T’soni and a Drell information broker named Feron, who fight the Shadow Broker for possession of Commander Shepard’s body after the Normandy disaster shown at the beginning of Mass Effect 2. Even if you haven’t read the comic, Liara gives you the basics when you meet her in Mass Effect 2, although having some familiarity with Feron might give the events in Lair of the Shadow Broker more impact. My apologies for not having posted this sooner. It has been a crazy busy week at work for me. Sorry but this isn’t what I do for a living.

Anyhow, due to the fact that my friend still hasn’t returned my copy of Red Dead Redemption, we will be revisiting the PC! This week we will be playing the free-to-play MMO Lord of the Rings Online. Starting at level 1 we will be venturing into the world of Middle Earth.

If you are interested, add Jorrel56 on Skype and we will be starting around 9PM EST. If you aren’t able to join us in-game tonight, be sure to watch the stream above and hit the the jump for the chat. Alternatively, you can watch the live stream here. Enjoy!

Update: With less than an hour left in my download of Lord of the Rings Online my power goes out. Ridiculous luck. For whatever reason, there is no way to resume the download. The many downfalls of downloading something that is free I suppose. Go ahead and comment below if you still wish to join in with the others and I will see that it goes on without me. Unfortunately there will be no live stream since I won’t be playing.

For over a year now I’ve been asking myself, what is Metroid: Other M?  Is it a side-scrolling adventure similar to the original games, or is it a first-person adventure/shooter like Metroid Prime?  Even though I’ve played through it, I still can’t definitively answer that question.

What I can say for certain is Metroid: Other M feels like a Metroid game I’ve played before, but also feels like something completely fresh and new.  It’s a bold new take on the series that some people will find refreshing, and others will find frustrating.  Unfortunately, most will probably fall into the latter category. Horror games are something that usually sound awesome in theory but often find themselves lacking a certain something when put into practice. A prime example of this is Doom 3. Now I loved Doom 3 as much as the next guy, but when you take a look at the horror aspects it almost always boils down to a monster in a closet. While having monsters jump out at you is definitely scary, it isn’t what I would truly call horror.

Luckily for gamers, the good folks over at Frictional Games are making huge strides in the field of actual horror games. Their latest endeavor, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, is an amazing step in the right direction for an actual interactive horror experience. Read more… »

There’s sadly not much to shout about in this week’s PSN store update, with notable content rather thin on the ground.

Still, the arrival of Worms 2: Armageddon softens the blow and there is also a playable demo of Quantum Theory, along with some more DLC for Mafia II.

Read on for a full listing of this week’s PSN Store content.

Today Blizzard Entertainment released the first new official custom map for its insanely popular RTS StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Dubbed ‘Burning Tide,’ the new map pits two teams of three against each other in a race to reach a set number of resources.

Think that sounds easy enough? Well, of course there’s a twist. Much like the campaign level ‘The Devil’s Playground,’ Burning Tide features periodic lava flood which interrupt your resource gathering. Read more… »

DICE managed to both shock and delight when it announced the existence of the original Mirror’s Edge.  Coupling a first person perspective with a platformer seemed liked the realm of an indie title. In actual fact, several indie developers had taken a stab at the premise but fallen short.

The game had a few niggles and became a real love/hate title for many.  For me it was love at first sight.  The gorgeous art style, the primary colours and minimalistic architecture all made it so appealing.  Faith was a great stab at a reasonable female game lead that was not reliant on gimmicks, skimpy underwear or breasts.  So I eyed the release on iPhone sceptically.

Today developer Red 5 Studios announced its latest project. Dubbed Firefall, the “team-based action shooter” is said to feature persistent elements. As to what those persistent elements are, your guess is as good as ours.

Taking inspiration from both Section 8 and Borderlands, Firefall will see gamers seamlessly transitions from 1st to 3rd person perspectives while zipping around massive maps with jetpacks. Gamers can expect some intense vehicular combat as well. To get a better idea of who Firefall will shape up, hit the jump and check out the 10 minute gameplay trailer. Read more… »

Nintendo DLC Update 9/6/10
By: | September 6th, 2010

It’s your favourite day of the week! That’s right, it’s Idonthavetogotoworktoday. As much as I would have loved to sleep in and enjoy the government-sanctioned holiday, especially considering the fact that I managed to get less than eight hours of sleep over the entirety of the weekend, I am here to bring you the Nintendo Update.

Seriously, PAX was great. There are plenty of wonderful titles headed to Nintendo’s downloadable services in the coming months. So keep an eye out. Until then, you’ll have to make do with these.

Hit the jump if spending your Labor Day with “peculiar cowboys, deadly samurai and feathered friends” sounds like your idea of a good time.
