The day after Starcraft 2 was released, I was sitting at my computer playing the single player missions when suddenly a buddy of mine told me he’d just beaten the game.  I’m talking the entire 20 plus hour campaign, and it hadn’t even been 48 hours since the game’s midnight release.  When I asked him why he rushed through it in such a short span of time, he said he hadn’t rushed; he just never stopped playing.

That single statement has resonated with me ever since, because the truth is, if you don’t want to stop playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, you don’t have to.  It’s completely packed full with enough mouse clicking content to keep any real time strategy fan occupied for months, possibly even years.  If you’re not a fan of the genre, maybe it’s time to become one, because this game is worth your time and money.  To find out why, hit the jump. Madden NFL 11 is only days away. The review, only one day away. However, it seems EA doesn’t think female football fans feed themselves. How can one resist the sweet temptation of the Philadelphia cheesesteak? I know I can’t – I grew up on that stuff.

All joking aside, the week has been good to us, and hopefully you as well. Were there enough goodies for your eyes to gaze upon? Well, if you missed anything, join me as I give you a healthy serving of the week that was. Read more… »

Another week of gaming has come and gone. But, the weekend isn’t quite over yet. You know what that means right? Yep, still time for some healthy outdoor activities. Because let’s face it, that is what normal people do right?

Not I though. I am not normal I suppose. Instead, I play the game where I am playing outdoors. What else would I be doing when it is sunny and 80 degrees outside? So, besides an unhealthy amount of drinking and poker this weekend I have been playing just one game. How about you? Read more… »

Believe it or not, Sega has been listening to fans. Sonic 4 alone is proof of that. However, Sega is not just leaving it at that. Everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic blue hedgehog is also making an appearance in an all new three dimensional adventure as well – Sonic Colors.

While that may sound like bad news, producer Takashi Iizuka is here to assure us that fans will not be disappointed with Sonic Colors and that this title will break the dreaded Sonic Cycle. Iizuka’s words, a brand-new gameplay trailer and the final box art await you after the jump.

We are only 2 hours away until our first live streaming of Gamer Limit Game Night. Tonight, we play some Battlefield Bad Company 2 for the Xbox 360. It isn’t too late to run out to the store and pick it up if you don’t have it. By far my favorite first person shooter in years.

Honestly, there is nothing quite like strapping a bomb to a helicopter and driving it right into an enemy tank. If that sounds like a good time to you then please send a message to Jorrel56 on XBL for an invite. If you aren’t able to join us in-game tonight, be sure to watch the stream above and hit the the jump for the chat. Alternatively, you can watch the live stream here. Enjoy!

Update: Gamer Limit Game Night was a ton of fun! Thanks to everyone that joined us. Feel free to watch the recorded stream above if you missed it.

The Grand Theft Auto series is often credited with the popularization of the open-world genre. For over a decade, Rockstar’s infamous series has been at the center of the evolution of sandbox games. The most recent major title in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, is currently the highest-rated title on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time.

With such a stellar reception, one may be forgiven for thinking that Grand Theft Auto IV is the pinnacle of the genre, a shining example so near to perfection that developers looking to make open-world games would do well to look to it for inspiration. Sadly, that is not the case. Grand Theft Auto IV has a myriad of problems.

One may think that a game that largely revolves around stealing cars, crime, and random acts of violence would at least have competent driving and shooting mechanics. It doesn’t. However, Grand Theft Auto IV and the countless other open-world titles that look to Rockstar’s flagship franchise for inspiration and guidance  have a flaw far more substantial than such superficial problems – poor mission design.

A few short years ago, we hadn’t even begun to fathom the idea of downloadable console games. We previewed our games by subscribing to official console-branded magazines that included demo discs, and we awaited new console releases with a measure of uncertainty, asking employees in stores like Babbage’s when their stock would come in.

Today, games exist that cannot be preordered, resold, or placed on our shelves. They’re becoming as much a part of our gaming lives as major disc releases, and their quality is often comparable. Yet a strange thing occurred to me recently: I don’t think the gaming world is ready to crown a downloadable game as the year’s very best game, even if it is in fact the best.

Well, why the hell not?

Castlevania is a series of many faces. The franchise debut was one of the first true frustrating platformers, Simon’s Quest hosted one of the first platformer/adventure hybrids, and Symphony of the Night coined the term “Metroid-vania”: a theme the series has been running with for quite some time.

But Harmony of Despair, Konami’s newest offering, isn’t quite like anything they’ve offered before. Think of it as Platformer Phantasy Star Online. Does Konami pull off this unconventional genre combination? Read on to find out.

Today Warner Bros. announced the title for the much anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster hit Batman: Arkham Asylum. Dubbed Batman: Arkham City, the new title takes the Caped Crusader out of the loony bin and tosses him into the “heavily fortified” “mini-city” of Arkham.

Aside from the details above, the only other information we have on the game is that it is slated to arrive on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in Fall 2011. Read more… »

In the past we have had a handful of game nights between the staff and any community members interested. Each and every one of them were a blast. So, we want to bring this back but this time, better communicate and schedule it so everyone is on the same page. We will even be live streaming each Game Night on UStream in case you aren’t able to play with us and would rather watch.

This week we were thinking Battlefield Bad Company 2 for the Xbox 360 given that the new map pack has been released recently. However, we are always up for suggestions from the community and we can be more than flexible. Gamer Limit Game Night is scheduled for 9PM EST each Friday. Hit up the comments and let us know if you are in. Also please give us games you would like to see be part of Game Night. Looking forward to Friday!

Update: Please send a message to Jorrel56 on XBL if you are interested. Invites will go out at 9PM EST.

Have you dreamed all your life of showing the world your talents? Do you await the day that you can walk into the recording booth, step up to the microphone, and yell, “F*uck you asshole!” Volition, the team behind Red Faction: Armageddon and Saints Row 3, is offering just that chance to someone with deep pockets and a heart of gold.

If you want to be the voice of Stillwater’s terrorized populace and contribute to a great cause at the same time, then this charity auction is for you. You had better have more than $405.00 stashed away, as the official auction page on ebay already has four bids, and more are certainly coming soon. But once you hear the story behind this auction, it’s damn hard to resist.

Good news, everyone! The chiptune-inspired electronic music of the Bit.Trip games is easily one of the biggest draws to Gaijin Games’ outstanding Wii-Ware series. The soundtrack for Bit.Trip RUNNER is available now over at CDBaby.com and it is excellent. Whether you are already in love with the games or are just a fan of the chiptune scene, I can wholeheartedly recommend checking this out.

More good news after the jump.
