Great PR stunt, exciting news or a handy distraction to the earlier Duke Nukem Forever rumour?  Either way the news of an unexpected piece of Bordelands DLC is nothing to turn our noses up at.  Gearbox had previously mentioned that the DLC for their highly regarded shooter was now at an end.  That is, until today.

This new slice of DLC goodness sees you trying to quash a Claptrap revolution using one of the original titles four infamous characters.  The fearless foursome find themselves caught up in the middle of civil war between the Hyperion Corporation and the massing army of crazed Claptraps led by the cunning Ninja Assassin.

To be honest the Claptraps were one of my favourite things about Borderlands so this should be a perfect blend of the zany Claptrap humour and the fantastic open world shooting.  Another skill point boost is on hand too which raises the level cap and will allow you to take your characters up to level 71.

Duke Nukem Forever – again?
By: | August 11th, 2010

Surely forever is, well you know, forever.  So when 3D Realms went belly up last year we thought Duke was lost to development hell forever.  Well it appears that rumours running around Kotaku (yeah I know but stick with me) seem to indicate a new developer has stepped in to the fray.

No stranger to shooters or long development cycles, Gearbox are now in the frame as saviours of the misogynistic anti-hero.  The studio was previously revealed to have been working on Duke  Begins, a spin off collaborations between 3D Realms, Take Two and Gearbox that would compliment the Duke Nukem Forever release.  All news of Duke Begins quickly died when Duke Nukem Forever slipped out of sight, with only a brief mention in a court filling between Take-Two and 3D Realms mentioning it since.

This summer Nintendo is running a series of competitive events across the United States. Wii Games: Summer 2010 gives the American public an opportunity to play a variety of Wii titles in select cities across the United States. Doing well at the local events could mean going to the National Championships in Los Angeles, where the winning teams will win some pretty sweet prizes.

After making a road trip across the American Southwest (this is starting to sound like the plot of The Wizard) to visit my parents in Texas, I found myself mere miles from one of these events. With the prospect of Nintendo paying my way back home to Califooooornia, I coerced my poor mother into coming along with me to play some videogames at the Woodlands Mall.

Hit the jump to find out about our adventure and one of the coolest free videogame events you might have the opportunity to attend this summer.

[This month is officially Driver Month here on Gamer Limit. Join us as we embark on an exhaustive road trip in a series of retrospectives for the Driver franchise in the run-up to Driver: San Francisco.]

Have you ever felt like a game was made solely for you? Well, this is exactly how I felt when a soon-to-be-revolutionary driving game sped onto the PlayStation completely out of nowhere back in 1999.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had an unrelenting admiration for cars, with a particular love of seeing them being bashed about and pushed to their very limits in high speed car chases from Hollywood movies. You could therefore stipulate that I’m a self-confessed fanatic of this particular genre of film, a fact that is testified by my mammoth machinima project Collateral Collision. Apparently I wasn’t alone in my enthusiasm either, seeing that there was another soul who happened to share my passion.

His name was Martin Edmondson (see, we even share the same name: coincidence? I think not), founder and Creative Director of Reflections Interactive who were previously responsible for the Destruction Derby series. If I were to ever meet the man, it’s abundantly clear we would end up spending an endless amount of time nattering away about our favourite car chases. Because just like me, Martin wanted to pay tribute to his infantile fantasy and developed a project of his very own – that project turned out to be not only the ultimate homage to cinematic chases but one of the most influential driving games of the generation; one that is still deeply cherished by its loyal fanbase.

Take a ride with me as we uncover the Wheelman’s untold legacy.

Today word got out, via USA Today, that several well known Hollywood actors will be lending their voices to help bring the world of Fallout: New Vegas alive.

Obviously Ron “War, War-never-changes” Perlman will be making his return to the series, filling in as the narrator. Besides Mr. Perlman, gamers can expect to hear Danny Trejo, Felicia Day, Wayne Newton, Matthew Perry, Michael Dorn and Zachary Levi in their post-apocalyptic journey. Read more… »

In case you hadn’t heard, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger – a new fighting game from the dudes that brought us Guilty Gear – was released. Also, for those who missed it, it was pretty damn good. It had a lot to offer for casual players with its multitude of single player options and expansive story mode, and a great deal of depth and complexity for those who like to play fighting games for blood. I have to admit, though: I stopped playing it only two months after it came out. The reason? A sequel was announced – BlazBlue: Continuum Shift – which would be coming out in November 2009.

As a competitive player, it felt silly to practice the old version when a new version existed. Thankfully, Continuum Shift was announced for a console release, and the wait is finally over. If I may spoil my opinion on the game early, in my opinion, it’s virtually the same as the original, with some nice changes, and a few changes that made me go “Huh?” If you were a fan of Guilty Gear or the original BlazBlue, it goes without saying that you’ll enjoy the new iteration. So, instead of wasting time repeating all the basic impressions of the game, here’s what’s changed, along with my perspectives on it.

This week’s Nintendo Download has a mix of games for your Wii and DSi, some more interesting than others. However, I can definitively say that the most arousing downloadable title of the week is Enjoy your massage.  Six clients are waiting for you to rub them down. The game is rated E10+ for “mild suggestive themes.” At a mere 500 Wii Points and suggestive material to be had, it would be downright criminal to miss out on this one.

The rest of this week’s update can be found after the break.

This is not a piece about Starcraft II reviews. I want to make that very clear; but I do take issue with calling the authors of these reviews “critics,” and Starcraft II is merely the latest title to bring this inappropriate verbiage to light.

To wit, the headline of the GameSpy article was “Critics Praise it, But a Number of Players Have Some Big Complaints About StarCraft II.” The video game media uses the words “critic” and “reviewer” interchangeably, as though they are synonymous. Most of the current reviews of Starcraft II have absolutely nothing to do with criticism.

Sony announces EverQuest Next
By: | August 9th, 2010

Some of you guys may remember the  time before World of Warcraft, when the hottest MMO on the block was EverQuest. Well, in an attempt to reclaim the throne of king MMO, Sony Online Entertainment announced the newest installment in its EverQuest franchise.

Currently referred to as EverQuest Next (I can’t imagine this name sicking), the new MMO is said to be more of a “reboot” rather than a sequel. Apparently, in hopes of furthering the idea of a “reboot,” Everquest Next will feature a new “distinctive” art style. Read more… »

Usually I preface my reviews with some sort of real-life reference – especially in the case of sports games. Not this time though. The reason for this is simple: I refuse to waste your time and mine. Madden NFL 11 has successfully bridged the gap between the “casual” and “hardcore” gamers. That is no easy feat to achieve in any game, no less a sports game.

When developers take a step back, evaluate something that works but find efficiencies that can be improved and end up delivering, it stands out. Instead of asking you a question here, or attempting to deliver some doubt to keep you reading, I will simply say Madden NFL 11 has reinvented how football games work and has succeeded in almost every possible way. I will in no way question your decision to stop reading here and go purchase it. After all, it is what I would do if I were in your position.
