[This month is officially Driver Month here on Gamer Limit. Join us as we embark on an exhaustive road trip in a series of retrospectives for the Driver franchise in the run-up to Driver: San Francisco.]

After the gargantuan success of Driver, the inevitable announcement of a sequel in 2000 came as no surprise, and with the dawn of the PlayStation 2 fast approaching, the anticipation for the Wheelman’s second and final lap on the PlayStation couldn’t have been higher. Likewise, my hopes for a worthy sequel were just as astronomical having enjoyed its predecessor like nothing else.

Reflections also had similar hopes for their sequel to be the most successful driving game of a generation, with ambitions of expanding the series to heights many couldn’t have foreseen.

Join me as we shift into the second gear of Driver Month.

As if we didn’t already know from the multitude of hints that have prevailed over the last year, Resistance 3 is coming. Today, however, saw the official confirmation from Insomniac along with an intriguing live action teaser trailer. I think it’s rather delicious myself, but you can judge it for yourself in the video posted above.

No further details were announced other than the fact it will launch next year and, judging from the logo, will see the Chimera turn their attentions onto New York just in time to coincide with Crysis 2.

Sony simply can’t get enough of flaunting Killzone 3. True to form, Gamescom has brought us yet another trailer of the 3D brethren, this time offering the first look at some multiplayer action.

Sony fans longing for a Mass Effect 2 fix that never came in January of 2010 can now rejoice.  While speaking at the EA press conference at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, BioWare’s Ray Muzyka announced that the space epic would be seeing a PlayStation 3 release in January!

It’s worth noting that as of right now, there aren’t any plans to release the first Mass Effect on Sony’s consoles.  This might mean that Sony players are deprived of the choices you can make that carry over to Mass Effect 2, both big and small.  We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Sony players.

Microsoft announced the Xbox Live titles for Windows Phone 7 today at Gamescom 2010, all of which will be arriving in time for Christmas. Just as I was considering asking Santa for an iPad.

Microsoft Game Studios is promising “an incredible line-up” of titles, with a companion to the Halo: Waypoint hub and Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst named on the docket already. Other recognizable titles include Assassins Creed, Castlevania, and Splinter Cell: Conviction. You can check out a full list of launch titles here. Read more… »
