While it has yet to be officially confirmed by Valve, Game Informer is reporting that the much anticipated first-person puzzler Portal 2 will hit stores on February 9, 2011. According to the magazine, which first revealed Portal 2 with it’s April 2010 cover story, this release date was confirmed by Valve employees at Gamescom 2010.

Apparently, Game Informer is also reporting that the new robo-buddy Wheatley, seen in the trailers, will be voiced by Stephen Merchant, best known for being the co-creator of The Office.

While I’m excited about this news, I still remain cautious. There is a reason why all Valve game release dates have a little asterisk next to them followed by the phrase “Valve time.” Valve has never been one to stick to release dates. Remember when Half-Life 2 was delayed for a year? To be honest, I prefer when Valve misses their release dates. It lets me know that they won’t release a product until it is up to their high standards.

Anyway, what do you guys think about this? Will Portal 2 fall victim to Valve time? How do you feel about Stephen Merchant being involved with the game? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

  1. Yay! Can’t wait!!!!

When we were at E3 they said it would come early 2011. Someone actually asked if this was on real time or Valve time. Got a laugh but they said in all seriousness it was in real time.

  2. Woohooo! I can’t wait for this!

  3. I wish they had kept the original voice actor for Wheatley, even if he is just a Valve employee. His performance in the E3 demo was spectacular.
