Gamer Limit Banner

Remember when I told you guys about the Red Faction made-for-TV movie coming to the SyFy channel? Today, SyFy let a few more details squeak out.

Now titled Red Faction: Origins, the made-for-TV movie will arrive within the same window as the upcoming game Red Faction: Armageddon (March 2011). Origins, described as a “pilot” movie, will tell the tale of what events occurred between Red Faction: Guerrilla and Armageddon.

The two-hour film will follow Jake Mason a ranger in the Red Faction Militia, who also happens to be the son of Alec Mason (the protagonist from RF:G) . Apparently the plot involves Jake finding out that his long lost sister is now a member of the EDF, the enemy of the Red Faction. According to the press release, “Jake must now battle the relentless regime and somehow reunite a family torn apart by war.”

Origins is also suppose to tie-in with an upcoming PSN and XBLA Red Faction title being released three months before Armageddon. Unfortunately THQ and SyFy are keeping the details on the downloadable game to themselves for now.

As I said before, I love these SyFy original movies. Nothing beats crappy CGI, poor acting, and ridiculously predictable plots on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The one thing that concerns me is that, I genuinely like the Red Faction story and would hate to see it represented poorly. Hopefully SyFy will do the story justice while making an entertainingly bad movie.

What do you guys think? Are you setting up your DVRs eight months in advanced? Do you guys share the same love of crappy SyFy movies as I do? Do you think SyFy will do the Red Faction story justice? Let us know my leaving a comment below.

  1. The Sci Fi Channel did much better with Dune franchise than the original feature film did. They do pretty decent stuff every once in a while. I’m optimistic. Then again, I’m not a huge fan of the series, so if it is a let down, I’m not going to be hugely disappointed.

  2. The David Lynch film was so much more true to the novel aesthetically, though!

SyFy movies, in general, are usually C-movies with dinosaurs in them. 90% of them, anyway. It will be interesting to see one of the thousand movies they canceled Farscape to fund that doesn’t have dinosaurs, I guess.

So hoping its more “Battlestar Galactica” than Megashark v. Giant Squid, or whatever it was called.

But Dennis is totally right to be mad about what happened to Farscape. That was a great show.

  4. Three words: “Mongolian Death Worm”.

SyFy is not to be trusted.
