This year’s spate of gaming marathons and charity events for the now burgeoning gamer’s charity Childs Play has officially begun, with the now infamous Mario Marathon come and gone. But if you are in the mood for some shenanigans, crazy accents and sleep deprivation based entertainment, the fellows over at the Australian based gaming community GameArena are playing Borderlands for 48hrs; seeking tasty donations in return for crazy requests.

We all graciously appreciated your support for our successful Piece of Heart marathon that we very barely completed last year, and the guys over at GA would also appreciate your monetary and emotional support while they slog through the game for the next 18hrs. Bring your friends! Cause havok! Ask them to do anything for money, because it’s likely that they are the types of dodgy guys that would. We’re a different breed down here.

Point your browser here and join the party.

I don’t know much about history, and I don’t know much about biology.  I don’t know much about science books, and I don’t know much about the French I took.  What I do know is I love this new trailer for a make believe God of War Indie movie. If you would just watch this trailer, you might fall in love with the idea of this movie as well, and then what a wonderful world this would be.

Seriously though, this trailer is absolutely incredible.  To see it now, hit the jump.

Today Activision sent word that a new James Bond title will be arriving on the Ps3, Xbox 360 and PC this holiday season. Dubbed James Bond 007: Blood Stone, the third-person shooter is currently being developed by Bizarre Creations (best known for Blur and The Club).

It seems like Activision has really pulled out all the stop for this game. Apparently, Blood Stone will feature an original story by Bruce Feirstein (the guy behind GoldenEye), as well as voice acting from Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, and singer Joss Stone. Word also has it that Ms. Stone will be providing the soundtrack with a little help from Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics). Read more… »

No videogame genre can survive without evolution. Hell, nothing can survive without evolution. Over time, something bigger and better will appear, and survival of the fittest dictates that one must adapt or die. There are no exceptions. Whether it takes a year or a century, the weak will fall and the strong will take their places.

So, what videogame genre is in greatest need of a lesson in natural selection? There are countless answers, and your own is likely colored by your own experiences. For me, it’s the fighting game. Despite a couple of somewhat important evolutions, my own preferences are issuing an ultimatum: try harder or lose me forever.

The developers at Zombie Studios had a lot to say about the universe of Blacklight: Tango Down before the game was released last week. It was meant to take place in a dystopian near future where countries were falling apart, viruses were running wild and turning people into zombies, and soldiers utilized futuristic technologies to do combat with one another.

This may indeed be the story, but it is fairly absent from the game. This state of affairs is indicative of the overall impression Blacklight: Tango Down makes: great intentions, but not enough delivery.

After what seems like an age we finally have confirmation of a new Oddworld title.   Starting way back in September 1997 the Oddworld series of games have drawn huge audiences, charmed by their quirky nature and absorbing gameplay.  Previous titles include Oddworld: Abe’s OdysseyOddworld: Abe’s Exodus, Oddworld: Munch’s Odyssey & the much ignored Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath.

This new iteration is not being handled by the original team, Oddworld Inhabitants.  Instead the development duties are falling to relatively new UK studio Just Add Water.  Just Add Water were responsible for the highly entertaining Gravity Crash game released a few months ago on the PSN for Playstation 3.  Not much in the way of concrete details have been released about the game other than it will be a multi-platform release (so I expect PS3/Xbox 360 but maybe also handhelds) and Just Add Water will be working closely with the original design team.

Today Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox Live Primetime MMO trivia game 1 Vs. 100 will not be returning for a third season.

Dave McCarthy, General Manager, Microsoft Game Studios stated: “When we started on this journey, we knew we were creating an entirely new genre of entertainment that would be a continually evolving concept. We’re very proud of the ‘1 vs 100′ team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we’ve learned to future programming.” Read more… »

The Cataclysm event is here, and Deathwing kind of left a mess. While all of the changes haven’t rolled out yet on the beta servers, there are a heap of areas that have either been created, or drastically changed. One huge perk about the new Azeroth is the fact that you can fly anywhere – which is a pretty big convenience.

Hit the jump for a whole host of videos I’ve taken during my travels in Azeroth. Read more… »

I haven’t been a fan of Shin Megami Tensei games for a terribly long time (maybe about a year), but in that time I’ve played as many entries as I could get my hands on. With Persona 3 Portable, I’ve found a greatly enhanced version of an already enjoyable adventure.  From battle mechanics to the option to play as a female character, P3P has taken great strides to appeal to returning fans of the series, as well as open itself up to new players, and the results speak for themselves.

Featuring a ridiculously long story arc, topped with equal parts dungeon crawling and social simulation, Persona 3 Portable offers an experience that players cannot help but remember long past the day they put the game down.  While not everyone may like what it has to offer, the game is more than any interested player could ever ask for, and stands to be a staple of the PSP’s RPG library.

So what can players expect after dropping full price for the title?  Keep reading and see!

The 18th Century hosted the Enlightenment, a movement centered on the questioning of traditional institutions, the rise of rationalism, and the adoption of modern science. A significant element of the Enlightenment was the rise of the public sphere: the areas of social life where people congregate, freely discuss societal issues, and influence political action.

This period was not a single movement, but a public awakening tied to a code of values that inspired conflicting and competing philosophies. The words “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” are regularly attributed to the philosopher Voltaire, and are famous for the characterization of the period. However, they are no less applicable to the state of the contemporary games industry or the internet for that matter. Read more… »

Guild Wars, in my opinion anyway, is the best MMORPG on the market.  I know many love World or Warcraft and others have dabbled with Aion, Star Trek Online or Lord of the Rings but I always find myself re-visiting Guild Wars.  So I was completely made up when I heard that the sequel was coming next year.

NCSoft  & ArenaNet have, via their website, released information on the Ranger class that will feature in Guild Wars 2.  Offering many a fine skill the biggest change to the game dynamic will come in the suggested implementation of pets.  A derisive subject for many, pets have crept in to several games lately and made a significant contribution, most notably in titles like Fable II and Torchlight.
