Gaming icon Shigeru Miyamoto has recently confirmed that the latest installment in the prestigious Legend of Zelda franchise will be “easier to play,” perhaps suggesting a more streamlined approach for Nintendo’s flagship series.

In an interview with Gaming Media, Miyamoto states that Nintendo is “creating a new way to play the game” – this harks back to what Eiji Aonuma said last year concerning that the series seems to follow “the same structure again and again.” Supposedly, the gameplay mechanics will undergo a more “hands on” approach due to the title utilising the Wii Motion Plus peripheral.

Remember the good old days of playing Unreal Tournament at your friends lan party? I know I sure do, which is why I found a recent interview with Mike Capps, president of Epic Games, slightly disconcerting.

According to the interview, Capps listed piracy as the main reason Epic Games has shifted its focus away from the PC. Read more… »

We managed to record a new episode of the Limitcast this week, as Chase finally decided it was safe to emerge from his tornado shelter. Don’t worry though, he’s no more broken than he was before.

During this episode, Shawn shares his experiences with Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, we discuss our excitement regarding Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake, and finally, Chase and Shawn bond over the verbal lashings they’ve received from me in the Starcraft 2 Beta.

Hit the jump and have a listen – it’s a great show.

Saving money is one of the hardest things to do – period. It requires tons of time, effort, and sometimes painstaking research to skim a few bucks off of your daily expenses.

But it certainly isn’t impossible, especially in the gaming realm, where technology and sales go hand in hand. Feel free to jump into my (hopefully) helpful guide below, and save a few bucks in the process. Warning: it’s pretty lengthy, so grab a discount Sam’s Club soda and relax. Read more… »

I can finally unplug my ears and stop screaming at the top of my lungs, because Bit.Trip Runner has ended it’s EU/AUS exclusivity. That’s right, it’s already May 17th, and the latest masterpiece from Gaijin Games is waiting on the WiiWare service for you to spend a measly 800 WiiPoints on.

Is it worth it? Of course! I don’t care what system you prefer or how much you’ll miss your trophies or achievements, this is pure fun in the form of retro, musical, platforming. If that doesn’t sound amazing, I think we need to call a doctor, because there’s something wrong in your brain cavity. For the rest of you, there’s video and more beyond the jump.

Today publisher Square Enix announced that the next iteration of the Kingdom Hearts series (and the first on PSP) will arrive in North America on Sept. 7. Our friends in Europe will have to wait until the Sept. 10 to get their hands on it.

Subtitled Birth by Sleep, the action-RPG will serve as a prequel telling the story of how Terra, Ventus, and Aqua face “a crisis affecting worlds far beyond their own.” Apparently the narrative will revolve around Keyblade Master Xehanort and how has gone missing. KH:BbS will feature worlds from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Read more… »

Welcome to the Weekly Recap. This week, I learned just how hard it is to write or read anything while listening to Dio. It’s not that the lyrics are necessarily so demanding that you have to drop everything and listen… it’s that you want to scream the lyrics with him while slamming your head about hard enough to snap your neighbors neck just by sheer awesome.

And although it’s sad to see such a legend go, I say we should celebrate his life by crankin up the volume and rocking out like he so clearly did throughout his life. But you should probably read this recap first. There’s some really good stuff that you may have missed this past week, and starting in on the Dio now would consume your whole morning.

It is my life long dream to watch Scarface 50 times. Pacino puts on probably has best performance outside of Dog Day Afternoon, it pushed many violence boundaries for it’s time, and the movie is pretty entertaining from start to finish.

While it’s not as classic as the film, the iPhone game Scarface: Last Stand is available for free all day from the iTunes store. Last Stand basically plays like a Time Crisis on rails shooter, and features dialogue, and locales from the actual movie. It wasn’t worth the regular $6.99 entry price, but for free, I’ll take it!

The last of the Halo Reach beta modes, Generator Defense, has just launched. Labeled as a “Network Stress Test”, you may get a lot of lag in your session, but it definitely is playable. GD is another variation of the Spartans Vs. Elites theme found in Reach, and has players either attacking or defending a set of three generators, then switching sides after the round is over. In this mode, you always have to stay one jump ahead of the opposing team, and focus on one generator at a time to succeed against swarthy defenders.

I do have a few hold-ups that prevent me from having as much fun as I’d like to, however.

Invasion has landed this week in Halo Reach, and I’ve had an awful lot of time to become acquainted with it. Put simply, Invasion is a 6v6 gametype that pits Spartans against Elites, in an all out objective based brawl fest. Elites have to press their way into a multi-tiered base, steal the Spartan Power Core, and escape on their getaway dropship. Spartans have a much simpler end-game: stop the Elites at all costs.

Right now only one desert outpost (Boneyard) is playable, and while some people feel like it’s a mixed bag, I’m actually enjoying it quite a bit. So let’s get down to business and check out some of the highlights!

Remember when there was the big controversy about how Modern Warfare 2 would not use dedicated servers on the PC? Well, today developer Treyarch sent word that the next Call of Duty title, Back Ops, will see a return to dedicated servers on the PC.

According to Mark Lamia, head Treyarch, “Dedicated servers are excellent. I don’t see any reason not to see them unless… well, I just don’t see any reason not to.” Read more… »
