In what seems to be the latest trend Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be getting a new four player online co-operative mode entitled “Onslaught“.
This news hits as the latest patch for BFBC2, v1.02, goes live bringing with it some game balancing tweaks, XMB crash fixes and also access to the new SPECACT kits. This kits will set you back around $2.00/£1.19 each or $5.50/£3.99 for the bundle.
There are four SPECACT packs each opening up four Trophies and four new awards each. The bad news? These kits are only available in the EU for now with and American release “coming soon”.
The new Onslaught mode will be playable by up to four players playing across four multiplayer maps. Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay have all been redesigned with new lighting, time of day, extra vehicles and multiple tweaks to add an objective based gameplay model.
This new mode is confirmed for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game but as yet no firm plans are being made for the PC version. Stating on their forums DICE, BFBC2‘s developer, had this to say:
The problem we have on PC is that all our servers are dedicated with providers. Changing a server from Conquest 32 players to Onslaught 4 players cuts out 28 player slots from the total ammount available. This could have a dramatic affect on the PC online environment if enough servers changed to Onslaught.
We aren’t ruling out Onslaught on PC but at this time we are researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don’t have Onslaught or their own server to run it on.
So no love for the PC at this time but it looks like if DICE can do it they will.
So no pricing, no release date other than “soon”. We will all have to wait and see what transpires over the coming weeks but what ever it is I’m genuinely excited for four player Battlefield Bad Company 2!

STOCKHOLM–(BUSINESS WIRE)–DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio (NASDAQ:ERTS – News), today announced that Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 is expanding its award-winning multiplayer experience with the introduction of an all-new mode called ‘Onslaught’. This mode brings co-op gameplay to the Battlefield franchise for the first time ever on console. Coming soon, Onslaught mode will be available on Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and on the PlayStation®Network, creating more reasons for players to check out the game that Seth Schiesel of The New York Times says “is a better game than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.”
