Gamer Limit Review: Plain Sight
By: | April 21st, 2010

In the continued vice-like economic climate, indie multiplayer games have broken onto the scene to provide virtual interaction at affordable prices. Games like Lead and Gold, Castle Crashers, and Fat Princess have proven that buying cheaper games doesn’t always mean poorer gameplay. In fact, some are better alternatives than some of the full priced offerings stinking up the shelves.

With that, Plain Sight is associated with a blossoming pedigree, and Beatnik Games has its work cut out for them. Does its recipe of suicidal robot ninjas battling in low-gravity arenas equal quality chaos at a low price; or does it blend together like pizza and ice cream? (Warning: do not attempt without proper medical supervision).

Today is a brilliant day for any fan of Starcraft 2 not lucky enough to have already gained access to the closed beta. Gamestop recently announced that all Starcraft 2 pre-orders earn their customers immediate access to the highly sought after Starcraft 2 beta.

This comes as quite a surprise, as it’s unlike Blizzard to offer beta access through pre-orders. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues with their next highly anticipated title, Diablo 3.

A hardcore salute to Halo 2
By: | April 21st, 2010

While a majority of gamers have moved onto Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST to fulfill their online multiplayer needs, a select few have not. Despite Xbox Live being set to shutdown last week, there remain some hardcore fans that have left their Xbox’s on for over 120 hours to play Halo 2 online and “keep the dream alive” as some put it in the live stream chat.

Whether you find this to be a proper salute to the legendary life Halo 2 has led, or just a waste of their time, those pictured above group together to give their “21 gun salute” in what is said to be only one of a few remaining online matches on XBL. So be sure to drop by their live stream and help give Halo 2 a unique sendoff as they continue to play. Read more… »

Some of the best games have immersed us in a world that gave a feeling of purpose. Looking left, right, up, and down in absolute awe is no easy task. Convincing the player to truly want to protect said world and the people in it is even more difficult. These are the type of games that will leave a lasting impression.

Metro 2033 strives to be such a game. And depending on your preferred play style, it may very well be just that. However, for others the glaring issues may be enough to let this post-apocalyptic world continue to suffer. Read more… »

Mega Man is getting a lot of attention lately in his retro two dimensional glory.  Mega Man 9 and 10 were released as standalone titles, and older games in the venerable franchise have been appearing on Virtual Console.  Now the Blue Bomber’s fourth title is joining the digital shelf.  Originally released in 1992, Mega Man 4 is front and center for the update to the Nintendo Store for 500 Wii points, or $5.

Mega Man 4 is distinct as the first game in the Mega Man series to feature Mega Man’s signature charged blast shot.  The game is also the first in the series to feature tools and items that can be found in hidden areas throughout levels rather than by defeating bosses. Read more… »

New reports from CVG have revealed that the 3DS, Nintendo’s new portable 3D gaming platform, will hit stores as early as October. The news comes as a surprise as Nintendo had originally slated March, 2011 as the release window. An October release would give the 3DS a three month run up to Christmas, which could be a huge asset in selling the new platform. The timing would also pit the device up against Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s Move in a three-way hardware battle. Read more… »

Since it’s 4/20, it’s my duty and obligation to make a marijuana related post, and coincidentally, I discovered this while browsing some of my favorite sites.  Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing after I smoked read it.

Andy Brown bought a used copy of Fight Night Round 4 when his son found a bag of marijuana in the case.  When asked what it was, Brown was shocked and slightly horrified to discover what his son was holding – a bag of marijuana. Read more… »

EA have announced their plans for the next batch of DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with the previously delayed Kit Upgrade pack. The pack is scheduled for release on Xbox Live April 21st and will include 4 different kits for each player class, comprising of new uniforms and camouflaged weapons along with 12 new awards and 4 achievements.

In Europe, each kit will be available separately for 160 MS points or as an inclusive bundle for 440 MS points, whereas the DLC is only available in North America from promotional codes on selected cans of Dr Pepper, bizarrely. A release date for the PS3 and PC versions of the game has yet to be announced.

The question is, will you be willing to part with your cash for these cosmetic changes after the previous map packs were offered for free?

I’m still somewhat in a state of disbelief at the sort of quality 2010 has imbued upon us. Mass Effect 2, God of War 3, Bioshock 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain, Battlefield: Bad Company 2- okay, we could go on for a lot longer. We here at Gamer Limit are all about letting you little buggers have your say, no matter how ludicrous, so why not come in and state your case about the best game of 2010 so far.

Hit the jump to check out a few of the top contenders, but by all means name your personal favorite for Quarter 1 in 2010, and explain just why it should be recognized as the best of the year so far. Also feel free to castigate me for omitting your pretty little 2010 gem.

You’ve seen the trailer, drooled over the screenshots, and it’s now finally ready to leech your free time; Square Enix’s much anticipated original IP  ”Chaos Rings” has today made its exclusive debut on the iPhone, iTouch and iPad. The title clocks in at a controversial $12.99, tagged alongside some sweetener discounts on other SE App Store releases, including the ports of Final Fantasy 1 and 2, and tower defense clone Crystal Defenders.

While the slightly higher price point may cause many to pause, don’t be afraid to break the psychological barrier of your iTunes wallet. The game is worth the outlay. Impressive graphics, a well tuned battle and control system along with a great score puts the title leaps and bounds above almost any other title on the system. Stay tuned for an upcoming review, but for now, try and resist giving into the portable pleasure.

Now in his 11th incarnation, with Matt Smith leading the charge, Doctor Who has graced many forms of entertainment from board games to trading card games and even had his own terrible movie. 2010 sees the return of the gallivanting Gallifreyan, as four interactive episodes are coming to PCs (and macs) this June.

Any doubters will be pleased to know that Steven Moffat (the current series’ writer, and the writer behind some of the best loved episodes since the re-launch) is involved, as well as games industry veteran Charles Cecil – the man behind Broken Sword.
