Despite the drama surrounding Infinity Ward lately, the Call of Duty series is alive and well.  Today in a press release Activision unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops, a new chapter in the long-running franchise.  Treyarch will be taking the reins for development of Black Ops after having previously developed Call of Duty: World at War. Not much has been detailed about gameplay, but reportedly Black Ops will take the player “behind enemy lines”.

“We can’t wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops is slated for a November 9 release date.  Further details will develop at the website.

It seems that the eyes and ears of the gaming press are pretty much everywhere these days. No sooner have Realtime Worlds, the games developer, updated the FAQ on their site than the world pounces on the information.

EA & Realtime Worlds had previously slated a July 2010 to September 2010 release window.  This looks to of be spot on if this post on the games official FAQ is to be believed:

APB: All Points Bulletin will be released for the PC on June 29th in North America, July 2nd in Europe. Read more… »

Isaac Clarke has returned in a sequel to one of my personal favorites of 2008: Dead Space. The first Dead Space 2 trailer is quite disturbing indeed. One thing we do know, Isaac is not right in the head.

“Isaac Clarke is back. He escaped the massacre aboard the Ishimura, but that was just the beginning. Find out what happens when the nightmare returns!” Read more… »

So Thursdays aren’t hip anymore – Sony said so. Sure it is the thirstiest day of the week, but it is no longer a day worthy of Sony goodies. Apparently Thirsty Thursday was crowded enough already with all that liquor, as this is the last PSN Store update scheduled for Thursday.

Sorry Mark, you’re officially left without an excuse to drink on Thursdays now. But because I know that won’t stop you and the rest of the readers from throwing back a few, the PSN update party will now occur on Tuesdays! So feast your eyes on an update to remember. Word to the wise: Chase’s tears make a great chaser. Read more… »

Today, in a surprise move, Halo developer Bungie announced that is has partnered up with publisher Activision for an exclusive 10 year deal “to bring Bungie’s next big action game universe to market.”

According to the agreement Activision is granted worldwide publishing and distribution rights for all future Bungie titles based on a new unannounced intellectual property. After investing roughly 70 hours into Left 4 Dead 2 and completing the five campaigns on expert, I felt reluctant to shelf the game right next to its predecessor.  I mean, I could have spent a bit more time trying to finish off the last of the achievements, but strangely, I never felt compelled to milk the game to its bitter end.

Despite it all, there still remained a small void within me that made me feel as though I wasn’t quite done with the game.  Well, you can only imagine how excited I got when I had a new reason to dust off the cobwebs and breathe life back into the zombie apocalypse.

Thus, Valve’s latest DLC, The Passing, couldn’t have come at a better time. And son, it doesn’t disappoint. Read more… »

Courtesy of IGN, the very first trailer for Test Drive Unlimited 2 debuted today, offering a tantalising glimpse at the game’s lavish locale. The new dynamic lighting and day and night cycles are shown off to full effect, to the point it makes you wish you actually lived in the island of Ibiza.

Naturally, a slew of prestigious posers cars are also showcased throughout the trailer, including an Aston Martin DBS, Gumpert Apollo, Ford GT and, curiously, an Audi Q7. Rejoice: now you can pollute the tranquil island of Ibiza in gas guzzling SUVS, which is a first for a Test Drive game.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is set to continue right where the original landmark MMO racer left off this Autumn for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

It’s time once again to sift through the tidings of this week’s PSN Store update. Wakeboarding HD has received a playable demo after being released last week, and there’s some more DLC for Just Cause 2, Dante’s Inferno and Mega Man 10. All in all, a pretty standard update.

Also note that this week marks the last Thursday update – from next week, all Store updates are scheduled to go live every Wednesday.
