If you didn’t see this coming, then you are clearly blind, deaf, and dumb. During the Final Fantasy XIII launch party, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada revealed through an interview that Squeenix will “explore the possibility” of remaking the PSOne classic. Nothing is set in stone, as Wada reiterated that they have to decide “whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”

Though it may not be the ideal answer that us FFVII fanatics have been looking for, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

It’s good to see that a remake of one of the most coveted RPGs of all time is finally getting some serious consideration by Square Enix, especially with the tremendous support from the game’s fans, and with the success of the re-release of Final Fantasy VII on the PSN, did anyone honestly think that a remake wouldn’t be on the horizon? I mean, this was a pretty big reason why I bought a PS3 in the first place:

Source: Joystiq.

  1. It’s just a matter of time and when Squeenix wants/needs the money. Why jump on your next big “sure thing” before you need to?

  2. I think I just saw a pig fly by …..

  3. This, to me, is bad news. I really, really think that a remake is going to make this game a lot worse. If they remade FF7, I would hope that they changed little-to-nothing. I would even prefer it if the camera was kept the same, to be honest.

  4. Well … I guess this is nice. Being that FF7 is the only game in the series I’ve touched, it would be nice to have a modern version so I could actually finish it.

Are they still selling the original FF7 in stores, anyway?

  5. I remember before it was on PSN, it would sell for minimum $60 on ebay.

  6. If this is remade, it must be the exact same. I played it again a few months ago, and it’s still one of the best games I’ve ever played. The story, the battle system, materia, the summons, chocobo’s, the mini-games, just about everything makes it the way it is.

Heard about it yesterday, this is great news.

  8. I understand so many people getting irritated with the on-and-off news regarding a remake for one of the most perplexingly beloved titles in the Final Fantasy series. Still, there’s definitely some merit to recreating this game. Final Fantasy VII doesn’t hold up in the least from a technical standpoint, and the story is an incoherent mess (though that’s mostly thanks to the translation).

At this point, if they went back and remade the game and cleaned up all of the things that just won’t fly in the current day and age of video games, they’d most definitely have a winner on their hands.

Considering A- FF7 is the top selling PSP/PSN game and B- FF13, by the franchises own standards, is kind of sub par compared to the rest review wise… i am not surprised.

What I feel a lot of people aren’t realizing is why bother remaking the game if it’s not a complete overhaul? The original game will still exist if u aren’t happy with the remake or need to get ur classic FFVII fix, so anything other than a total make-over is a waste of resources, time, and money… and I’m pretty sure Square knows that.

Square also knows that a remake would make them more than double the money they’d put into the project.

    • And that is exactly why they’ll wait till the right moment to release it. My guess: after the Fabula Nova Crystallis has been completed and FFXIV has been released.

AINX.. i agree with u about the overhaul remake of FF7 just for a simple reason that only a few fans know. The game wasn’t finished when launched to stores, and the producers knows that. The storyline is huge so i think that they have left a few things to do..ex: a cave that breaks the game leaving your screen black, isn’t normal. But i am here just to say that CEO of square-enix and producers are dumbs almost retards, because they are still in standby ( 4 years ) thinking making a remake of game that have sells 9.8 MILLIONS of COPY’S. Well about FF13 i think that they have been smocking something funny while producing the game, because they have forgot about what RPG like FF series it is.

Hey ppl! Sr.Yoshinoti Kitase is not ok of his brain, he said that remaking a FF7 for ps3 would take about 40 years.lolol. Well he toke about 3 years to make FF13 and he had to create the characters the roll and system. We fans of FF7 don´t want things perfect just better, the graphics system could be like FF10 and wont toke more than 1,5 years.

well from the looks of it, SE seems to think that this project would take an enormous amount of time to recreate, but also an enormous amount of resources which they are probably right. they also seem unsure about what changes should be made in the remake, if any. and if there were, would it make the game better or worse than the original. here is my argument, instead of blowing off time and resources on developing new games/titles to the series, why not use that time and resources to recreate a for sure, huge hit remake? especially when some of their most recent, have been let downs on the ps3. i understand that it would be difficult to recreate the game with enhanced graphics, music, etc. but they are doing that for new games are they not? would it not be easier to recreate something versus create something from scratch? after the release of ffx which i didn’t find all that great, i have started to feel that some of SE’s games just didn’t give me that feeling of satisfaction after beating them anymore. i’m sure a lot of ppl felt that way also. i mean 12 was a huge let down, and i haven’t even bothered with 13 because i know it sucks. almost everyone i know would love to see this game remade and they would buy it if it was .but my point is, why waste time and resources trying to make new let down games when all your fans would like to happen b4 any new games/additions to the series, is just a remake of the best rpg of the ff series??
