A midnight memoir: FFXIII
By: | March 19th, 2010

A disgruntled hello, wrapped in the smell of new and used plastic, welcomes me into my local Gamestop. It’s 10:45 p.m, and people are already milling about.  They shift through faceless lithos like homeowners searching someone’s garage for hidden treats.

Others snicker together in neatly packed groups. I start towards the counter when I overhear two of them arguing which Final Fantasy character would be better in the sack. My curiosity can’t be helped; so, I stop and examine a giant cardboard Bioshock 2 that commands, “Buy me now!”

Late last night Valve announced that it has updated Team Fortress 2 to now allow user made items.

Since that announcement, people have already been finding all kinds of new items including: new outfits for every class, new melee weapons for the Demoman, soldier and Pyro, and a new snack for the Heavy. Read more… »

Nine straight hours had passed since I first placed God of War 3 into my PS3, and as the credits slowly rolled down my TV screen, all I could think about was how my quest for vengeance had finally come to an end.  Getting up from my couch, I calmly walked over to the sink to wash the blood of all my countless victims off my controller: for I had slain any who stood in my way and the entire world now trembled at my feet.

No, I might not actually be Kratos, son of Zeus and destroyer of the gods, but for those incredible nine hours I felt like I was.  Having played all three God of War games to date, I have been with him on every step of his long, arduous and bloody journey.  Now that it’s finally come to an end, I feel an empty place in my heart, like I’ve said goodbye to an old friend. The only thing left to do is explain why you need to experience the marvelous end of his quest for vengeance yourself. Read more… »

Rockstar has announced today that the long awaited port of Episodes From Liberty City for PS3 and PC has been given a last-minute delay, and will now be released on April 13th in North America and April 16th in Europe.

Previously stated for a March 30th release, Rockstar cited “a request by Sony Europe to make some minor content changes to the PAL PS3 version of the game” for the delay, but maintain that “the minor changes made to the game will not affect the gamers enjoyment of the games, these will not affect any gameplay elements and were not related to any local ratings requirements.”

For further details about the delay, head over to Rockstar Games for the full announcement. While the delay could be much worse, it’s still disappointing news nonetheless.

It’s Store time once again, although this week’s update is somewhat lacking in standout content. Wakeboarding HD is the latest downloadable PSN title which looks fun but hardly enticing for the asking price (Smash Cars anyone?), but there is a steady supply of downloadable content to be had with an expansion pack for Dragon Age: Origins and the Exotic Racing series pack for Need For Speed: Shift.

As per usual, you can find a full listing of this week’s update after the break.

Today Shinji Mikami, the man behind the Resident Evil series, announced that he is forming a new studio after he finishes he latest project for PlatinumGames and SEGA. The new studio, dubbed Tango, isn’t concerned with profits or investors, but rather the next generation of Japanese game makers.

According to Mikami: “One of the reasons I’m building a company is to raise the game makers of the future, people who haven’t gone pro yet. Game development is often overseen from a pure business perspective here, which is unique to Japan, and I have the impression that environment tends to prune away young talent. I really want to make Tango a company run from a creator’s perspective, one that expands upon new talent.” Read more… »

Seriously, what is Kingdom Hearts? I’ve played every game and remake in the series, and I still have no idea what Kingdom Hearts actually is. Is it an everlasting salt flavored ice cream stand? Is it a place for boy band voice actors to hang out? Hopefully we’ll find out in the upcoming PSP title Birth By Sleep, finally confirmed for a North American release this summer. Packed full of Disney goodness including the all new Lilo and Stitch, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White kingdoms, Birth By Sleep looks like it already has a lot more unique content than 358/2 Days.

Stay tuned this summer for the portable monologue-collection-of-quotes such as “I am nobody…but if I am nobody…am I somebody?” goodness.

Sony isn’t messing around with their new Playstation Move accessory. With the dust barely settled from it’s official announcement at GDC, they’ve already started what seems to be an all out offensive against Nintendo’s mighty Wii and Microsoft’s looming “Project Natal” (which I wish they’d just name already).

As with the “It Only Does Everything” campaign, Kevin Butler certainly brings the laughs in this newest video, but it’s not just harmless fun this time around; instead, his target’s are clearly marked and mocked. By kicking off an ad campaign of this sort, Sony seems set on showing why they aren’t just the best option in motion control, but the only one for hardcore gamers… a market Microsoft seems all to willing to give up on.

Yay, another Lunar remake!  Let’s call this one… Silver Star Story Silver Star Story Complete Lunar Legend Silver Star Harmony. There we go.  While the PlayStation version was an enhanced form of the SEGA Saturn version (which itself was a slightly better port of the SEGA CD version), L:SSH for the PSP goes back to the original SEGA CD source and switches up the viewpoint, redraws the characters and environments, and adds new music and scenes.

If you’ve never played Lunar before, you should go get this immediately, as it’s one of the finest old-school RPG’s on the PSP.  If you’ve played the other iterations, however, your purchasing decision is a little hazier…

How do you fit obese royalty into your pocket? It’s a question that has bugged us at Gamer Limit for quite some time. Judging by Martin and Simon’s ex-girlfriends we thought they would have the answer, but sadly they weren’t princesses. Lucky for us that Fat Princess, the well received PlayStation Network title, has now been released on Sony’s PSP with the subtitle Fistful of Cake. Perhaps we’ll know now.

The original Fat Princess was a riotous online team game that, once it sorted out its early network problems, had a lot to give. Moving a game that relies so much on its online element to a platform that isn’t exactly famous for games of this ilk does appear to be a risk. So with that said, just how well does it weigh up to its beefier home console counterpart?

This week, special guest James Pinnell takes a break from his usual schedule of excessive drinking and general badassary to join us for an in-depth discussion on Final Fantasy XIII.We do our best to weigh the pros and cons, while also trying to make sense of claims regarding the title’s linearity.

Later in the show we get pessimistic about the validity of On-Live, and Sony’s Playstation Move.
