Match 3 games will eat your soul. RPGs will eat your soul. And for a good while now, we’ve known what happens when match 3 games and RPGs collide, and in terms of your free time, the result is not pretty.

Now we’re faced with a startling reality: the insanity of Puzzle Quest is back to make its mark upon our personal lives once again, giving us yet another reason to do insane things like purchase three copies of the same game on different platforms.

D3Publisher gave me the opportunity to check out the upcoming sequel, Puzzle Quest 2, which promises more of what we loved about the original and, with any luck, plenty of reason to return to a formula that many of us are now intimately familiar with.

Joining the throng of digital pilgrims at PAX East this year, I quickly discovered that nothing draws a crowd of gamers faster than the promise of free food. Microsoft opened their doors to gamers this morning at their NERD (New England Research and Development) location, offering some bagels, donuts, and a chance to hear Major Nelson drop a little MS news on the crowd.

I won’t lie, the food was by far the highlight of the event, but some interesting info was revealed. It was confirmed this morning that Xbox360s connected to Live will soon allow USB drives for storage. Drives up to 16GB will be supported; while larger drives may work with the console, their 360 storage will be capped at 16GB. The update will be available on April 6th, offering a very little relief for 360 gamers whose current HDs are packed to the gills and can’t afford the dough for beefier storage.

There was also a Microsoft Surface on hand which was impressive tech in general, but underwhelming in the games category; the touch responsiveness for the few game apps left much to be desired. Much more exciting to us was the news that Crackdown 2‘s Rocket Tag mode would be playable on the floor here in Boston. More to come on that once we get our sugary glaze-covered paws on it.

Apparently, I have yet to learn to count as the Hydrophobia clock ticked and tocked its way down but still crept up on me.  As the digits decayed it revealed Hydrophobia‘s aquatic new homepage, fresh with screenshots, and a game trailer. The game will be released exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade and will be playable to all those attending this year’s PAX East, so if you’re heading over there, do yourself a favour and check it out.

Hit the jump to see what breadcrumbs were left along the way, and a sampling of the brand new screenshots. Read more… »

You got coop in my Metal Gear! It seems as if all three proud PSP owners got together to film this new video for the upcoming Peace Walker.

The above segment features an encounter not present in the demo found on the Playstation Store. Speaking of the demo, I really enjoyed it- one of my favorite parts of the game (Demon’s Souls style) is that there’s absolutely no pausing, even in menus – this is most likely due to the fact that the game is meant to be played cooperatively, in order to force you to get used to constant action. Those are different classes you’re seeing in the video  - you can choose them at the start of a mission to suit your style.

Feel free to follow the YouTube link, and read all the “man I wish this was on the PS3!” comments.

If you’ve bought a Ubisoft game on the PC recently (what’s wrong with you?!), then you’ll be familiar with the fact that, to play one of their games, you must be connected to the internet the whole time.  Three cheers for copyright protection!

When Ubisoft’s DRM servers were attacked recently by cyber-terrorists, that led both the Assassin’s Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 servers going down, down, literally around (sugar, we’re goin’ down swingin’).  Gamers couldn’t even play their newly purchased games.

Ubisoft’s solution?  Free games for the sad people that couldn’t play their other games!  Check out the huge list of titles after the jump, and see the free stuff you’re missing out on because you bought AC2 on a console like everyone else.

People who’ve purchased and registered MSI video cards all received a shocking mass email this evening, which has angered many, including myself.  The email, sent from the MSI HQ User Forum and Support Team, and written in horrible English, appears to be a response to the large number of RMA requests the company has received recently.

It begins by insulting its user base for not knowing how to read manuals, stating the “team is fed-up with explaining [to] you what can be found in the manual”. It then continues on to reveal MSI has installed “RTFM-chips” on their video cards that monitor and report back user behavior.  The email concludes by threatening to not support anyone who damages their video cards or who doesn’t read the manual by the first of next month.

Another Thursday, another PSN Store update for us to savor. As usual, there is a fresh batch of special offers for outdated games that Sony need to shift (a lot of which are curiously from SEGA this week), along with a playable demo for Green Corp and a host of DLC for the likes of Alien vs. Predator and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The LittleBigPlanet costume downloads have also made a triumphant return with no less than 4 new Sonic themed costumes and a level kit, and MAG even received a free DLC pack.

For a full listing of this week’s offerings, hit that jump.
