As many of our regular, devout readers have noticed, we’ve been borderline obsessive on the debacle surrounding the push for an R18+ rating in Australia. Recently, the EveryonePlays campaign, headed up by Australian gaming site PALGN, has teamed with national retailer GAME to keep the government in the spotlight.

Being advocates for the rights of gamers the world over, Gamer Limit has teamed up with EveryonePlays to spread the word, chalk up support and hold both the South Australian and Federal administrations to account. Since public submissions closed on the 28th of February, it’s critical that the issue doesn’t float of the public realm.

If you’re interested in keeping abreast of the campaign, hit up “EveryonePlaysAU” on Twitter, and head over here for Facebook.

Over the weekend Activision Blizzard stirred up some controversy by sending a cease-and-desist order to a group of fans working on a fan-made King’s Quest sequel dubbed “The Silver Lining.”

It is important to note that this group of fans, working under the name Phoenix Online, has gotten into legal trouble before. Back in 2005, then owner of the King’s Quest franchise Vivendi sent Phoenix Online a cease-and-desist letter. After a few months on negotiating, Vivendi granted Phoenix a non-commercial fan license to use the King’s Quest settings. Read more… »

PS3 owners worldwide were dismayed today after an apparent error has rendered their consoles practically useless. The problem does not affect owners of the newer bulimic consoles, but those with the original beefy models will find that you are currently unable to access the PSN.

And that’s not the worst part – trophy supporting games are failing to launch altogether resulting in an “8001050F” error, meaning that your hunt for the Origami Killer has been temporarily hindered. Boo.

In addition, players have been reporting that their all important trophy data has been corrupted and dynamic themes are failing to load. Sony are said to be looking into the problem and have advised users not to use their consoles until it  has been resolved, which they hope will be within 24 hours. The root of the problem seems to be from the firmware however, as the calendar settings have been set back to January 1st 2000 – Y2K anyone?

Edit: It seems as if Sony have disinfected the PlayStation Y2K bug and games are now playable once again. Time to get back to Heavy Rain.

For a decade or so, Sonic’s sub-mediocre titles have gone from shelves to bargain bins (and, no doubt, regular bins) at supersonic speed. Sonic 4 promises to take him back to basics, but for now it seems Sega wants a slice of the potentially lucrative, mascot-based carting pie.

Sega’s latest hedgehog-filled slice of gaming pie certainly looks delicious, but when hedgehogs and cars meet, the result is usually fairly messy. Will Sonic’s latest outing bring his run of terrible offerings screeching to a halt, or will it simply be yet another bathetic blue smear of video game roadkill? Step inside to find out. In the darkest depths of our basements or the highest reaches of our attics, sometimes valuable objects are just waiting to be rediscovered.  After hearing about the seller who sold Stadium Events for a whopping $13,000, a Kansas native, Dave, searched his basement for his lost treasures.

“We had quite a collection (185+ games) that has sat in our basement for over 20 years,” Dave told Y! Games. “The games were on a list to be brought to Goodwill – in fact, within a month, Goodwill was going to have them.”

And what did he find? He found a copy of Stadium Events.  But wait! There’s more. Read more… »

Welcome, yet again, to the classiest post of the week: your Weekly Recap! With February coming to a close, and a quite eventful March staring us dead in the face, like an awkward friend who doesn’t know when to look away, I’d say there is a ton to look forward to in the coming weeks.

But simmer down, because before we fire up our bubble pipes, tighten our smoking jackets, and begin nodding in unison and saying things like “indeed” and “quite,” I want to go off on a tangent. And what is that tangent? Haiku.
