Gamer Limit Banner

If you are a huge Metroid fan like I am, you’ve probably been waiting impatiently for Nintendo to release some new gameplay footage of the latest installment in the series: Metroid: Other M.  Well wait no longer, because a brand new trailer has just been released which includes over two minutes of never before seen footage from the game.

I will be the first to admit that I have my doubts about the new direction Team Ninja is taking the franchise.  However, after watching this incredible video, I think I’m willing to hold off my criticisms until the final product arrives in my hand.  To check out the trailer, and get your Metroid fix, hit the jump.

  1. It reeks of auto-aim, but the first person mode looks cool.

Did any other Ninja Gaiden fans notice the 1:1 recreation of the Ice Cave from halfway through the game, at about the 1:50 mark? That looks awesome!

  2. It definitely looks interesting… How you switch between the first and third person controls seems fairly natural for the Wii (but possibly very gimmicky if it isn’t super smooth).

I’ll be picking it up for sure. Holding off judgment as much as I can until then, though.

  3. This looks nice. I’m one of the few who hasn’t played the classic Metroid games, it seems, so hopefully this wouldn’t be too great a shock to learn.

Also, out of curiosity, what’s wrong with auto-aim?

  4. @Kyo
Super Metroid was awesome because you had to aim your shots, platformer style, adding a more tactical feel to it – every super missile was a choice. If you just have to mash a button to shoot everything on the screen, that’s less fun.

  5. @Magnalon
This much is true, but wasn’t Super Metroid a 2D game? Given the somewhat poor historic performance of 3D platformers, this might have been a design compromise to give the game a less steep learning curve. Nintendo wants this to sell well, after all, and I tend to doubt most new gamers would consider it if there wasn’t auto-aim. Can’t please everyone I guess.

  6. Looks awesome although I’ve promised that I won’t get this until I finish the Metroid Prime Trilogy which is collecting dust and probably won’t be finished for some time.

  7. I’m just glad that the story is finally exiting the “between Metroid and Metroid II Return of Samus” saga. Anyone that remembers Metroid Fusion would be the least bit curious about this ADAM character that Samus often referred to in Fusion. Looks like ADAM will be in this game
