Sony isn’t messing around with their new Playstation Move accessory. With the dust barely settled from it’s official announcement at GDC, they’ve already started what seems to be an all out offensive against Nintendo’s mighty Wii and Microsoft’s looming “Project Natal” (which I wish they’d just name already).
As with the “It Only Does Everything” campaign, Kevin Butler certainly brings the laughs in this newest video, but it’s not just harmless fun this time around; instead, his target’s are clearly marked and mocked. By kicking off an ad campaign of this sort, Sony seems set on showing why they aren’t just the best option in motion control, but the only one for hardcore gamers… a market Microsoft seems all to willing to give up on.
Although I’m not buying the hype of any motion control device after Nintendo’s so-called revolution, the confidence both Sony and Microsoft have in their new technology is a bit baffling. I was under the impression that most casual gamers have treated the Wii like a fad (much like Guitar Hero before it) and that the serious gaming market has grown tired of the motion control gimmicks. After all, my Wii owning friends never touch the thing and even mine is more of a paperweight than a legitimate gaming console.
Maybe they’ve actually managed to fix whatever the Wii’s shortcomings were. Or maybe they’re just confident that motion control is just the next logical step for gaming. Either way, it looks like we’ll be in for a long year of hype-filled attack-ads from both Sony and Microsoft.
And hey, if we’re lucky, maybe Nintendo will get in on the fun!
Kevin Butler single handedly saved Playstation. I think most everyone can admit that.
You’re wrong. It was the PSPgo that saved Playstation. Get your facts right before spitting hot fire, Dylan.
Kevin Butler never appeared in a PSPgo ad, therefore you are wrong Mark.
The problem is, all of the currently available motion control technology just doesn’t work properly. Until you can street fight with the best of them, it’s going to be another useless piece of plastic.
I’ll make a prediction right now:
*Down-Right + Punch* will never be bettered… ever.
W + Mouse 1
I absolutely love it
