Gamer Limit Banner

Today media giant Warner Bros. announced that it has acquired developer Rocksteady Studios, best known for last year’s blockbuster Batman: Arkham Asylum.

According to a Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group president, “Rocksteady demonstrated its professionalism and extraordinary development abilities with Batman: Arkham Asylum. This arrangement is a great strategic fit and we are very pleased to solidify our relationship with this talented development team.”

What does this mean for gamers? Now that Warner Bros. owns the Rocksteady Studios, the developer is able to draw from a whole slew of brands owned by Warner Bros., including all of the DC Comics catalog. Hopefully, after Rocksteady finished up with Arkham Asylum‘s sequel, the developer will be able to take its action adventure game development experience and utilize it with new intellectual properties.

In fact Rocksteady game director Sefton Hill stated, “The Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognized Warner Bros. brands like Batman.”

Can you guys imagine a Green Lantern game designed by the guys behind Arkham Asylum? My nerd sense is tingling just thinking about it. Now that Rocksteady has access to all of Warner Bros. IPs, what game do you think they should make next? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

  1. This can be both a blessing and a curse. I mean, sure, Rocksteady did a great job with Arkham Asylum, but now they have Warner Bros. breathing down their necks about design features and such. It’s great that they have access to all the licenses, but I hope Warner Bros. leaves the development process untainted.

    • I wouldn’t worry too much, Ashley. People were nervous when Electronic Arts purchased BioWare, and look what that’s given us! I think it’s the publisher in question, and Warner Bros. seems to have a good understanding of how Rocksteady developed Arkham Asylum.

  2. Maybe now that they are owned by Warner Bros., Rocksteady can go off and make a Superman game. That could be so incredibly AWESOME!

  3. I would die for a good Superman game.

  4. Let Arkham Asylum 2 come out first, and see if we still have a love affair going with this studio. One great game does not an elite studio make.

    • So you are excited about a new Sonic game after 18 years of pure crap, but you aren’t willing to give Rocksteady the same excitement until they come out with another good game after their already incredible first game.

  5. I’ll wait to see how they deal with the sequel before I make any judgments on this acquisition.

  6. They made a great game coming from practically nowhere, with this additional budget force behind them, can’t wait.
Except, I disagree, a Green Lantern game is inevitably terrible until the controller becomes a mind reading device. Any character you can control whose power is “Whatever their will can create” is going to be a letdown with limited controls.
