Blizzard has revealed their system requirements for StarCraft II, and Josh Quinnett just blew a heart valve and probably some other bodily fluid as well.  The highly anticipated game’s release date has continually been reshuffled into mystery, leaving its audience wondering when the game will be released.

Well look no further, Blizzard is on the brink of releasing the beta very soon, and it’s gearing up by letting you know what the minimal specs are required to play. Read more… »

Today developer Futuremark, best known for their hardware tech demos, announced that it will be offering a free weekend to try out its zero-g multiplayer shooter Shattered Horizon. In order to participate, just log-in to Steam this Friday, February 19 at 00:01 GMT. The trial period will last until 21:00 GMT Sunday, February 21.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this shooter, let me fill you in. Shattered Horizon is a FPS set in space, meaning players are free to move in all six axises. This adds a new level of challenge to the classic FPS mechanics not seen anywhere else. Read more… »

Join Chase Cook, Shawn Evans, and myself for the Limitcast’s very first live episode, which – aside from an unscheduled flurry of porn within the first few minutes of the show – is one of our best shows to date. To fill you in, during this week’s opening we’re responding to an unconventional viewer’s efforts to force streaming porn upon our innocent listeners.

Anyway, this week we discuss a number of topics, including Microsoft’s decision to discontinue Xbox Live support for original Xbox titles, the Bad Company 2 demo, and this week’s Gamer Limit Game Night – all while I do my best not to gush about the upcoming Starcraft 2 closed beta.

Kaleidoscope is the kind of game you’d expect to find on the Wii. In fact, in many ways its story is similar to De Blob, which was released for Nintendo’s latest console in 2008. However, Kaleidoscope is a platformer that borrows elements from classic platforming games, while adding a touch of its own charm and a great soundtrack that makes it an absolute joy to play.

The story for the game is pretty basic. You play a small black ball of fluff named Tint who must restore color to the world, one stage at a time. The world is divided up into four sections with equally distinct graphics, so much so that it’s reminiscent of platformers like Super Mario 3 in which you journey through different themed worlds to accomplish your objective.

As an adolescent, I was a child who lived in two distinctly different worlds. I loved to play Dungeons and Dragons and video games with a small group of friends, and I was on the football team as well. I loved the competition and teamwork of sports, but I also loved the imagination and strategy of gaming.

When my teammates inevitably found out about my gaming habits, they were quite thorough with their mockery. It was one of those crossroads moments in my life. I chose to spend time with the nerds who at least accepted my jockness over the jocks who chose to close their minds completely to the joys of my nerdiness.

Today developer TimeGate Studios announced that its multiplayer-focused futuristic FPS Section 8 is now headed to the PS3.

Originally released on the PC and Xbox 360 back in September, Section 8‘s main draw was its “burn-in” feature. Essentially, players are able to be shot anywhere on the battlefield via orbital drop, eliminating spawn points from the game’s mechanics. What makes this interesting is that while players are falling though the atmosphere, the other team is able to pick them out of the sky with anti-aircraft guns. Read more… »

Ubisoft will be delivering the second promised Assassin’s Creed 2 DLC on February 18th for Xbox LIVE and PSN, according to a recent Ubisoft press release. Aside from the release date, Ubisoft has featured a few new screenshots for the DLC, entitled Bonfire of the Vanities, one of which is featured in the header.

This DLC will revolve around ten memories that follow Ezio’s attempt to aid Machiaveli in freeing Florence from Savonarola’s rule. Of course, you’ll get more assassinating action, with Ezio targetting several key citizens who enforce Savonarola’s control over Florence.

Over at 1UP, someone with access to an alpha build of the upcoming XBLA and PSN game Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 leaked a smattering of images (of which the header image is one) of the game in motion, along with a video.  While the video was clearly taken with a home video camera, it still gives us a (somewhat) clear look at what we can expect from the game.

Check out this nostalgic footage after the jump, along with some of the leaked images that accompanied the video.  Then, feel free to share your thoughts on what you’ve seen in the comments, or head over the official Sonic the Hedgehog forum thread for more in depth discussion! Read more… »

Price of Persia: Forgotten Sands has finally received a release date and surprisingly, you’ll be able to wall run and rewind to your hearts content a full week before you go and see Jake Gyllenhaal on the big screen. This release in the Prince of Persia series is interesting, as while the game is a movie tie-in, the story of the game actually takes place after the movie it is being released with.

The game will be released on May 18th with PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, PSP, and DS versions all hitting the shelves at the same time, but Ubisoft took a special moment to address fan concerns with how the game will play out on the Wii.

Recently, Activision Blizzard announced that a new Call of Duty is in the works for 2010, but because a yearly release of a new game within the series can only go so far, they’re beginning to take steps to set up a subscription based online game.  How this will mull over with consumers? Who knows, but if it’s anything like World of Warcraft, you can expect it to destroy families and call for addiction clinics.

Similarly, Activision Blizzard have realized that the rhythm market is beginning to decline and will be peeling back the number of titles released for 2010.  It’s time to move away from the plastic peripherals!

sf4 iphone Street Fighter IV hadoukens to the iPhone

It looks like Ryu and his friends will fight their way onto the App Store, according to always-get-the-exclusives-first gaming site IGN. That’s right folks, fans of the fighting franchise who happen to own iPhones as well will surprisingly get a taste of Ryu’s fist (or Ken’s, more likely) later this month. Capcom broke the news that their bonafide, prized baby Street Fighter IV has been in development for quite some time now, and will be heading to the iDevices sooner than later.

We’re pretty happy about this. Considering fighting games on the platform come few and far between, we’re not complaining about the sudden release. Screenshots after the jump. Read more… »
